Sound Problem (solved)
I was recently having a very odd experience with the in-game sound effects and managed to solve it. It is a very specific situation so I'm not sure how many people this post will benefit but ... some sounds in-game were broken, crackling, etc., some sounds were very faint while others were very loud. It was all wrong. I figure it has something to do with surround sound, but I'm not quite sure what. I tried older drivers for my sound card, and that didn't work.
I found a line in the [sound] section of the game.cfg file: snd_safe_mode = 0 I changed this to: snd_safe_mode = 1 ...And my sound went back to normal. As I said my situation was very specific (see below if you're interested), but it may help anyone with sound problems who has recently made changes to their computer to edit the configuration file in this way. *** This section is just for NGD so they know how I produced the problem. I had installed Regnum on Windows 7. It worked just fine, but for reasons I can't be bothered to explain I have reverted to Windows XP. I have a Creative SoundBlaster Live 24-bit sound card (which provides 7.1 surround, just FYI). To avoid downloading the game, reinstalling, downloading resources, etc., I simply backed up the game folder and plonked it back where it was once I'd formatted my HD and installed XP. I installed all my programs and drivers including the latest driver for my sound card. ***
