Default I love this game but..

I've been playin this game now few days. I have lvl 11 marksman and i'm starting to get in to this game. Only 1 problem. Game keeps crashing a lot..i know thats not new information but what really is my problem it also crashes my computer..many times a day :/
And as you can imagine pushing reset many times a day is no good for you computer. Or atleast no good for your filesystem.
Does anyone else have similar problems with Ubuntu 7.04 / ati radeon 9550 / sempron 2300+?
I'd love to solve this problem 'cause i'm really starting to like this game.

Edit: "crashes my computer" means usually that i still can hear sound but screen is in freeze. Sometimes screen goes black and no sound. In any case, only pushing reset/unplugin powercable helps.

what about hitting ctrl-alt-f1 to jump out of X into a console, then you can kill the game and jump back to X (alt-f7)

Have tried that and ctrl-alt-backspace (should restart X). No Success.
Maybe next time i'll try to take ssh connection from my another computer to this one..but i think its not just X that crashes but my whole computer. Anyway have to try after next freeze/crash.

How do you launch the client ?
i'm on Ubuntu, and i launch it only in Terminal, that way when it crashes or freeze i can (fast) always just shut the terminal and open a new one to get it run again..
i also don't use it fullscreen, but windowed the same size as fullscreen : this way i have the whole screen used but can still acces everything on the Desktop and any command needed.

This way i had only one computer-crash so far, even if i get loads of client-crashes... well, it's a beta for now

I run Ubuntu 7.04. Regnum has never fully crashed my computer or even the X server. The game just crashes to the desktop.

However, if your computer does fully lock-up, do not just press the reset button. Use these series of key commands for a safer reboot...

alt+sysRq+R
alt+sysRq+S
alt+sysRq+E
alt+sysRq+I
alt+sysRq+U
alt+sysRq+B

Pause a few seconds in between each command.

the sysRq key is your Print Screen key on your keyboard. And I think it has to be the left ALT. This is the series that I learned one time, and someone has given an easy way to remember those letter combinations with this phrase: Raising Skinny Elephants Is Utterly Boring

sure its not a hardware issue?
when linux locks so hard then its usually hardware, not software.
maybe the graphicsdriver but i would look more into overheating or power supply.

does the sound go in a loop when the game freezes?

It might be hardware issue, it is not impossible. Sometimes sound goes loop, sometimes not. No overheating.
On the other hand..this is only game/software freezes my computer..i dont know. Maybe i just have to live with this situtation =)

Well..it was, after all, overheating problem..I put 1 extra fan blow directly to my graphic card and tadaa, no more computer freeze :P
Still i dont know why i didnt have this problems with other games before.
Anyway, problem solved. Game still crashes sometimes but not whole computer.
