Armour Bonus
I don't know if I'm missing something but this doesn't seem right. I know Armour Bonus etc. had problems in the past but I thought NGD fixed this one. It just doesn't make sense to me.
I tested two different Tunics against a Marks. He was using level 50 Arrows (Slashing) and a Mag Bow with fire damage bonuses. The first one was a level 50 Tenax Tunic (200+6) which is Excellent against Fire and Normal against Slashing. The other was a level 47 Apocalypse Tunic (192+2) which is Good against Fire and Normal against Slashing. The Tenax Tunic gave me a total of 219 AP and the Apocalypse Tunic gave me a total of 208 AP. Wearing the Tenax Tunic gave the Marks an average hit of 330 while the Apocalypse Tunic gave him an average of 338. Meaning the Apocalypse Tunic has an overall defence which is better then the Tenax one. Looking back at the two Tunics and comparing their stats I'd say the Tenax should give a much better defence then the Apocalypse. Thanks guys Surfacing |

Quote:
Normal armors will always provide better protection than dragon armors, because they have actual resistances, and archers tend to use mixed damage types (at least slashing arrows and usually a magic gemmed bow, combined with rings). Dragon armors do not have resistances for the most part, being mostly Normal to everything, which has no bonus to the AP offered by the item. The benefit of using dragon armors is that they have almost no weaknesses in kind. However, everything changes when mixed damage is involved because mixed damage uses the new DOT calculations. Essentially, it doesn't really matter what his secondary damage types were, or what your resistances to them were, because your armor only resists it slightly compared to the main damage. The variance in his damage was simply the difference between the low and high ranges of his attack. What I am trying to say is, there is absolutely no benefit to your armor being Excellent vs. Good to the fire damage component of his attack, because that damage is secondary, not primary, and thus uses a different (weaker) calculation. This was done to make mixed-damage attacks such as DOTs, mixed-damage weapons, gemmed weapons, etc. more useful, although they still do less damage than they did before. On top of this, individual items do not contribute to your overall AP much any more. You can change from a level 50 tunic to a level 1 tunic and only lose maybe 50-60 armor points, so your damage resistance will not drop all that much. This is due to NGD balancing the coefficients of the armor parts so that having a few pieces at a lower level does not make your armor much weaker. On my barb, I have lv44 paulds, lv38 leggings, and a level 47 helm, yet still have 263 out of 268 AP. My armor calculator is here for those interested. Kind regards.

No problem, I could've been nicer with my wording to be honest.
