apperentaly it works so far, but I need to play much more to make sure.
but again, it doesn't solve the problems, it just goes around them.
how can I play the game with full graphics and effects without crashes ? (my PC should support it).

NightTwix 07-02-2007 10:59 PM

one of my clanmates has the same trouble with his ATI card and regnum.
it keeps on crashing...
now he has to boot windows to play it

MAXDDARK 07-02-2007 11:25 PM

it does work well in safe mode, but the graphic could be much much better if the crash problem would be fixed.
I also notice in the start of the game that ATI is somehow involved in this game (sponsor maybe) so their cards should work perfectly.

It's hardly NGD's fault that ATI doesn't care enough to make proper linux drivers. Nvidia on the other hand have supported linux 200% ever since XFree86 4.0

again, all the other games works perfectly, the drivers are fine.

well he was able to play before...
so something in the game has changed.

Again, regnum is not all other games, it is infact its own game. And again, ATI's drivers are not fine, they've never been fine, and I seriously doubt they ever will be fine. If you want a good gaming experience in linux, nvidia is the way to go.

Ignorance makes people angry. ATI's drivers have are being re-written. Yes ATI lacked much Linux support, is that the case now? No. AMD purchased ATI. AMD moved the ATI Linux Driver to release monthly just like the Windows Driver. The release 8.37 updated the control panel to match that of Windows. 8.38 was a hotfix, same as windows gets. The driver is far from perfect yes, we still lack GLSL 2.0 support, but to say that AMD isn't spearheading this operation is a false statement. ATI botched the drivers really bad the first time around, I think thats apparent - however unless your looking at the changes that have happened through out the year, your really missing whats going on. The general stability of ATI cards has leaped further bounds than I had hoped, I can just use Linux without crashing, my laptops power features work now, etc.

It is quite possible that AMD will have AIGLX working by year end, which means that its possible we could have GLSL 2.0 support, and much improved speed. Keep in mind, AMD/ATI is giving us MONTHLY driver updates now, these drivers take 11 weeks to prepare, so we are almost 3 full months behind what they are working on now, check the AMD/ATI site often, and watch for a multitude of changes over the course of the year, we still have 6 driver releases to go before year end.

note: I am not a fan boy, I just like facts to be facts.

And in 2003 ATI said they were going to better their support for linux and really get the driver up to par

Then in 2004 ATI said they were going to better their support for linux and really really make it good

Then in 2005 ATI said they were hiring more developpers and they were really really going to invest in the linux support

and so on and so forth

Man I really really hoped ATI would make a good driver, because there's nothing more I'd like to see than nvidia and ati cards actually competing on merit and price, give the consumer some choice, but ati has repeatedly for so many years now let down their linux users by supporting only some of their chipsets, retiring other chipsets too fast (without them ever actually having had decent support in the first place)

But, throughout all these years and all their promises, the only constant has been complete suckiness.

But I guess, if you want to buy a top dollar top of the line ati card and have it perform on par with a riva tnt2, that's your choice.

And no, I don't believe AMD will change the situation any. ATI has promised too many betterments over too many years and never delivered. I wish you luck in waiting for an nvidia-quality driver from ATI, and I hope you eventually get it. But I just don't believe it will happen.

2003 - Company Owned by ATI
2004 - Company Owned by ATI
2005 - Company Owned by ATI

Mid 2006 - AMD Makes plans to Aquire ATI.
Q4 - AMD aquisition Goes through

January 1st 2007 - AMD moves ATI Linux driver to monthly release.

ATI no longer runs ATI, you are forgetting that. ATI mainly had only Windows users at stake, AMD has a LARGE Linux following. If they ever hope to create CPU/GPU hybrids this is something they seriously need to get figured out.

And you must not use ATI cards with in the last 6 months, because the drivers since the start of 2007 have increased dramatically. I'm not disputing your opinion, just pointing out your opinion is not currently factual.
