Besides, your defensive stance towards Horus doesn't warrant insults... I simply suggested moving to the server designed around speaking English if you prefer to speak English and don't want to deal with the Spanish. And now think about the opposite reasons for playing either on Horus or Ra - if you want to play between english speaking people, you have to play on Horus but if you like challenging enemies and bigger wars you should play on Ra. If you don't like spanish, go to Horus, if you have 6 characters on Ra and 3 of them on lvl 50, you will probably stay on Ra.
As NGD stated in some threads about migrating characters some months ago, Horus was not made for people to move there from Ra but for new players to go there.
If someone already has millions of XPs grinded on Ra, he would probably stay there and has rights to complaint about spanish/not spanish on Ra because it's an >International< server as well.
And suggesting to forget the hundreds (or thousands) hours of grinding on Ra and "simply" moving to Horus is not well thought out.

So because there's an English server people should not talk English at Ra? While we're at it, lets disband the German Guardians and force them to move to Muspell or Niflheim. They are created for a reason after all.

We don't bitch about it. You don't get it. I learnt spanish at school, so I can try to speak a bit with spanish people out there that are nice people. Sometimes we also speak in English because it's an international server afterall. I also speak in french when frenchies are around. What we say is just we don't like getting insult for not speaking spanish all the time. And yes this happens.

PS: About who started to insulted who (yeah it's kiddish but) you started to say something about lazy people that didn't want to switch. We may have many reason to stay. One of them is I don't want to level in a desert server, and other I have lots of buddy still playing on Ra.

Whoa whoa whoa, back those trains up. I think there's a lot of misunderstanding going on here, and a lot of unnecessary flames. For one, I don't think anybody bashed people for speaking or wanting to speak english on RA, or being forced or anything. Nobody is telling spanish players they should speak english. I think the original issue or complaint was that some spanish people were telling the english speakers to speak spanish, and not being very nice about it. At least that's how I interpreted the original posts. Since it's an international server, people shouldn't feel threatened for speaking english on RA, or german, or whatever.

That line of thought should hold true for Horus as well. Just because Horus is English oriented doesn't mean we should force others to speak english on that server. People should feel free to speak in whatever language is most comfortable for them. If someone wants to know what was said, they can have someone translate for them, or go look it up themselves. I don't think it's very efficient in a warzone sense, but I don't think people should feel like they -must- speak the language of the server when it's listed as International.

NEVER did I say stop playing Ra and I completely understand the reasons for not moving having played there myself. It just seems futile to argue over what language is there when the spanish community HEAVILY outnumbers you. Of course its an "international" server, but there's this little thing beside it that says "ES", unless I'm mistaken, that stands for Espanol or Spanish.

there was nobody complaining about having problems with spanish people and language all around, there was somebody complaining about rude reactions to english on realm chat ... and you are arguing with these people, does it mean you approve of it?

No you don't have to shut up and accept it but there's an out for you if you find it that much of a problem. I'm saying there are simply other option and just sitting and complaining about it here is pointless. If someone in-game offends you, you can take a screen shot of it and send it to NGD, last time I checked Kailer knew Spanish and can either clear up the insults as a misunderstanding or take action against that person. Also, you could put them on Ignore or if its that big of a problem Horus is there.

Its only deserted because people don't want to play there, if you aren't part of the solution then you're part of the problem so really blaming the server itself for not wanting to play there is a bit redundant.

I agree that the suggestion to send a screenshot could help solving some of the worst problems.

Aye, but those problems are more related to people asking questions and being yelled at not about language.

And tbh its a problem but no matter where you go you're going to have someone say "where is blah blah blah" and someones going to yell out "noob its over here" at least thats the issue I see in Ignis.

It's worse if some new player comes and asks "is here someone from Madagaskar?" in his mother language just to target people from his country and gets responses like "This is an english server, you have to write in english on chat" or "Go away with your (language) there is another server for you".
That can hurt someone.

People, I can only shake my head... How can you survive in the real world when a simple "Please speak in English here" hurts you? This is an international Server and English is the main language. It's normal that you speak English in the Realm Chat. If you do NOT, it is you own choice and you should really be able to handle an answer like that. That has nothing to do with racism. Sometimes I forget where I am and speak German too in Realm-Chat oder General, and I have been told to speak in English more than one time - so what? It is normal that others want to understand what you are talking about, and it is impolite to talk in another language knowing that they do not understand.

And last but not least it is better for the realm, if there are no little groups that have only secret intern communication in foreign language and spam the realm chat with it.

I do not understand what you are crying about. I feel that the Realmchat on Horus is very polite and friendly, people help each other whenever they can, and I did NOT find any racism yet.

And the last thing that we need are gamemasters or people that send screenshots to somebody because of every sentence they do not like. This habit of squaling and wailing and denunciation is something that I hate much more than one or two rude words.

The problem with this that has turned up on Horus a lot is that people will ask if there are any others(I can usually tell when they're just looking for people) but then someone answers and they start filling the chat with whatever language. At that point I ask if they could open a party chat or pm or something to try to keep the realm chat English since Horus is suppose to have a base of an English community.

Horus is english based but personaly I dont mind 2 or 3 people speaking another language on it, most of the time theres nothing important happening on it, yet some people seem to think It should be reserved for some reason...

Ignis has had straight up flame wars across realm chat, along with racism, prejudice, all kinds of crap. I was once jumped for telling a newb where fragile skeletons were on one of my alts because I wouldn't tell someone who my main character was.

Realm chat is really just full of stupidity most of the time. I really don't have a problem with other languages in chat, but I know that some people find it rude.

About players that constatly annoy you and IGNORE no longer helps, because they run after you to kill your moobs, what can be done?

1) Mobs are not YOUR mobs. Other people like it to kill mobs together, this tactic is called "grinding group". ;)

2) If that player annoys you, just go away for some minutes until the "unwanted help" is bored and leaves.

Actually this did happen to me once. I was working on mobs for a quest, and I noticed a Barb (don't remember the name) running toward me, well, then I noticed he was following, so I started running up the mountain toward withering heights. Then he popped spring as I moved over the top. Lol, I think I actually lost him because I doubled back once I was out of sight. My original plan was to just have him run through a bunch of aggro goblors (he was low level) but I guess he lost track of me, so I took the long way around and went back to grinding for my quest in the same place. Didn't see him again. -shrug-

There are things that can be done to lose someone who's being annoying. I can see how unwanted players can be a problem especially if they do a lot more damage than you. (Example: unwanted barb "helps" a hunter out, but the hunter doesn't do enough of the damage to actually gain much xp from the mob) If that's not kill stealing, I don't know what is. Granted usually it's not a problem, however I've seen instances where the mob dies due to unwanted "help" and despite the group bonus, I only get half of the original xp worth in total. That used to happen to me a LOT on Ra in Syrtis. Heck I've even had someone ask me to go somewhere else because they were there first and grinding in the area. Problem, was I was in low 30's and there wasn't anywhere else at the time. I never attacked the same creatures he was, but he still asked me to leave. I just ignored and kept on my merry way. He didn't do anything to spite me, so I didn't really care, and just minded my own business.

Anyway, yes these situations do crop up occasionally. What can you do about it? Well, other than making suggestions on improving the group-work, not much. If someone hassles you, and they do it everytime they see you, report them. If they follow you, lead them on a merry chase through an aggro-infested area. Heck, run in, throw an area around a bunch of impossible aggros, and get the heck out of there. Maybe they'll get caught in the backlash. There's plenty of ways to shake someone who's stalking you.

The other option is to just act like they aren't even there. Eventually they get bored and run away. Or if they do more damage than you, wait til the mob focuses them, and then immediately target another one close by. if he's stupid enough to switch attack that one too, then he'll have two mobs on him, and if he's not prepared, well, it won't end well for him. Especially if said mobs use rake or rabies, heh.

Most of that's just brainstorming, whether it's actually practical or not is a different question all together.

(EDIT) In response to the above post, A "grinding group" doesn't involve a single person following you around and cutting your mob xp in half, when the group bonus only adds a small bonus. That's called an opportunistic jerk. If you're grinding together, then usually said person will wait until you've done enough damage, to get your share of xp. The "unwanted help" types are not that forgiving.(/EDIT)

If that actually happens, that the stalked player got zero xp, you have found a flaw in the XP distribution algorithm then. The game designers has clearly stated many times that it is their sincere intention to encourage team work, i.e. several players beating the same mob is supposed to be more beneficial for all participants than each of them grinding solo. "XP stealing" thus is supposed to be a nonsense concept in this game. If there really is "xp stealing" happening, then it is the xp algorithm that needs to be looked over. You simply can't have too much team play here, not even with players using rude little words, for which there already is the /ignore command for those who feel offended by it.

And in case you by "not letting them get xp" meant less xp per kill (rather than zero as I assumed above) remember it is xp per minute that counts when levelling, not xp per kill. The key to fast levelling is GRP bonus.

You need to hurt the mob at least 10% to get any xp. So if a dude comes and 1hit kill all your mobs, what do you do then? Grp bonus dosn't help you there.

Then you tell him to stop that and then:
Just WALK AWAY. It's easy!

In game moderators? Hell. To. The. No.

If someone is pissing you off --> /ignore. Simple as.

I really don't know why people have a problem with other people talking in a different language.. I'd welcome to chance to even learn one word of another language.

There is a small but growing population of immature players that like nothing better than to start flamewars, talk about anal sex, raping female players, troll with racial comments, made dick and fart jokes, call everything gay, and just generally annoy people in realm chat.

I do believe that is why Woden started this thread.

Anyone who is bothered by this kind of talk in realm, please announce in realm that you are ignoring them and DO ignore them. If you fight with them in chat, you are doing EXACTLY what they want. Giving them attention.

Freedom of speech comes with a responsibility. Obviously those who are doing this are irresponsible and deserve to be silenced. I for one WILL start sending chat screenshots to abuse@ngd.

As for the language barrier, each server has a preferred language. Not everyone speaks that language however. Ask politely if someone speaking a different language can speak the preferred language. If not, or they don't understand, or it bothers you, use /ignore. I don't see the problem ignoring someone you can't communicate with anyway.

(EDIT) I should mention that I have no problem with other languages in realm except of course, "jackass". I will never learn to speak that.
