I'll try it as soon as I find a gender scroll for RL :P.

Personally I'm not complaining too much, but I can see how people can complain. It's a bit too exaggerated, even if it's based on actual movement.

You can change your gender as you like in RL. And for your sex you have hormones / chirurgy.

Silver_Hawk4 08-11-2008 05:16 AM

OK. The as the community the CORRECT way to deal with this, I feel, is a Poll.
Make this a POLL.
Everyone vote once.
Majority rules. Everyone else suck it up...
If animation gets reverted no complaints, if not Use the "E" key to keep the good pace....:closed2:

save_the_trees 08-11-2008 01:43 PM

Actually I'm not so much against the walking animation, but the turning animation just looks so gay now, and this time even gender independent: both animations are crap

Valorius 08-11-2008 04:20 PM

I like the way the player turns their head to the direction you're turning, but it takes about 4 seconds to rotate 360 degrees.

What the hell is that? I can rotate at about 8x that rate in real life, and i'm just a regular guy.

no you're x military pwning forces.

But I can turn around x16 that rate and I agree, some movements are just stupid

Unless you want to turn 90 degrees every time you tap the arrow key, there isn't much that can be done about that as long as you're using WASD movement. Adding additional buttons for fast-turn and stuff would just make things too complicated.

Valorius 08-12-2008 01:59 AM

One key (say RCTRL) for fast turn would be quite simple. Or they could just make fast turn a double tap of the left or right arrow. 4 seconds to rotate 360 degrees is pretty silly. As AWD said, it's easy to rotate 16x faster than that IRL for any adult in good shape. Lots and lots and lots of fighting games have much faster turn rates than regnum does.

Angelwinged_Devil 08-12-2008 01:45 PM

what about letting the mouse control the look when you hold down a key (say alt?) this way you could still use wasd movement and turn fast if you need to with the mouse.

Imagine you're wearing heavy steel armour and helmet and other heavy stuff, I wouldn't turn that fast :sifflote:

But boy, when you catch inertia you would be unstoppable!

I agree with Piz, but there's also a reason why the chars turn so slow, IMHO. This is to prevent kiting, a technique used to lure the enemy and escape from their attacks. That's why they reduced the "backwards speed", and to avoid anything that resembles this technique they slowed down the turning speed so you don't run away. I mean, that way you can't turn, go back some feet and turn again, at least not quickly

PS: the use of "they" as a neutral, non-gender pronoun is intentional.

PPS: These are personal opinions.

Imagine you were a legendary elvish warrior who'd been wearing armor for his whole adult life and was totally accustomed to it.

You would turn that fast.

Imagine someone hitting you with a big metal hammer at your skull, in real life it will not do just 350 damage. This is a game, and some things have to be different from real life to keep stuff balanced.

Many well balanced games have much faster turning rates.

When my old man was a cop he got hit 18 times in the head with a hammer and threw the perpetrator(who was on angel dust) out a 3rd story window. My dad is still alive today, with no long term damage. He did spend a month in the hospital though. Needless to say he got a commendation from the city for it. There are documented instances of people in war getting shot multiple times and not going down.

Yes that's why there is a difference between skilled and noob players, Skilled warriors know how to catch ppl, noob warriors (like my barb :ohill: ) just run in circles all the time. Skilled other classes know how to dance around when getting kicked hard :bangin: by a warrior. Moving out of range of spells is not that easy either. The dynamic and balance between movement and casting/attacking makes this game so fun and kiting really belongs to this game. And if you read my signature you'll see that I got this opinion although I'm not a hunter. Don't like kiting? practice more ;)

Hello everyone,

after a lot of thought and some debate we have decided to do the following.

As a consequence that some people felt offended by this particular animation we will try tweak it. In any case, we are more concerned about the verbal abuse that you are mentioning in this thread.
We have not received many complaints about this kind of behavior before, we will add a legend to remind the players to report any kind of abuse on the first line of the chat window.

please report any such behavior to abuse@ngdstudios.com.ar

Best regards,

- Chilko

Valorius 08-16-2008 02:16 AM

Wow, that's great Chilko!

The walk is good, but the shoulder movements are too extreme. Just tone it down some, and you're in good shape.
