schmooooo IP :dumbofme:
then they should release detailed specifications for their cards so the open source drives could be written properly.
Same holds true for nvidia, they arent any better on this topic. Only diffrence is that their binary-blob works

*hugs suram* thanks for the linux support :)

anyway, I think you need to look at some documentations out there and then work with some ati doods to give them output errors, then you can compare them and somehow find a solution ;).

MAXDDARK, have you tried downloading the windows version and whining it?

MAXDDARK 07-17-2007 03:21 PM

I almost never use wine, certainly if we got a native Linux client.
the problem as I think is with my ATI video card not being fully supported by this game.

not the game, the linux client, if you're on windows I'm sure your ati card will work just fine, maybe you should try wining it

MAXDDARK 08-01-2007 12:20 AM

you mean to run the Linux client on Windows ???

DuoMaxwell 08-01-2007 04:56 AM

no, the other way around, running the windows client on linux using Wine, there was a guide posted here on how to do just that and it's helped some ppl get it working, but at some preformance hit as even tho wine doesn't emulate anything it's not fully complete since they've been trying to reverse engineer all the closed source win32 api code for which theres little to no documentation for allot of it outside redmond.

As for the craptacular ATI drivers even Dell has stated that ATI needs to fix their drivers for linux since Dell has started selling Ubuntu machines.

It's not so much the pattents anymore thats the problem with GPUs, its also the software implementation for many features and capabilities of the card. The cards themselves aren't so technologically advanced that the card itself can compete on it's own merit alone. If they did then why aren't ATI and nvidia making CPUs? More money in that then in GPUs. In the end the GPU is just a custom made computer on a board runing extremely optimized code to reach those high lvs of preformance.

I guess some OpenGL functionality used by Regnum exposed by the ATI driver is not working well, but I don't know which one.

We plan to give official support for the Linux client in the future, but for the time being, due to our limited resources, it's not possible.

However I read some posts in this forum about making Regnum work with the open source drivers and Mesa 6.5.3, maybe you can check that.

One thing you can try to help is to add the line "dbg_disable_shaders = 1" to the file game.cfg located in live/ folder, to see if the problem is in the shader support.

Regards,

From one Linux devel to another. Ask for a few ATI cards from the users :) I still have a stack of 9600's I can send you from my last project.

MAXDDARK 08-02-2007 09:56 AM

That is actually a great idea.
I hope you live in south america (but north will be good as well ;)).
my ATI videocard is the only one I have right now so I can't send it ;)
and I live a little to far from south america.
