Lucky Boxes: Happy or disappointed?
Recently there has been alot of who har on the forums about lucky boxes... Problems with them.. Possible bugs... Unsatistifed customers.. The works.
So this poll is to see just how many people have: A) Bought boxes, B) Are satisfied with their purchase, C) Or are unsatisfied. I bought 4 Plat. boxes and, as I stated in a post somewhere, was unsatisfied. Two were junk, one magical item was ok, but no better than a special item, and was good goodish, but not useable by my subclass. |
I posted I have not bought them. I was going to; however, all the people I know have received crap items from them so I choose not to waste my money.
|
I think NGD shuld take note of this poll - and not just for those who vote that they are happy/unhappy with their items.
The number of those who haven't bought is also interesting, because there might be many people (like Comp) who won't buy them because of the complaints about useless items. |
Does obtaining 2 from xmas trees count? I was a warrior and I got a bow and a mage hat :\
|
I picked not happy!
Unfortunately Im not happy with any of the of the lottery tickets i got in my life either. No point of a lucky box if it would automatically give what you needed. Even if i think NGD appreciate feedback on their premium items, i dont think they need a poll to see if its bad selling item or not. I think its a fairly successful item, considering there are so many disappointed buyers. :tonguey: I dont think it should be improved or made cheaper, maybe they should just change the name so everyone understand that it is a gamble to get one. |

You can euphemise it all you want; i call it a rip off! |
I never bought a lucky box but opened several from the Christmas event and was disappointed! Glad I didn't buy any.

In two years of grinding i havent got anything really good for my main characters, i think 7-8 euro is a fair prize and quite easy way of getting something good. |

I only spent xim on amun for my hunter (50) and the epic/magical armor/weapons i did manage to get ...umm an odd 20 times out of boredom to see what id get..fearing my 2+ month hiatus for having my baby and stuffing myself with family over the holidays would leave me outclassed since everyone would now have uber weapons..i was less than impressed.
I seen alot with resist cold/light/fire etc with a bonus of 1% the epic bow i got paled in comparsion to a viper id gotten as a gift along time ago, and while my current armor is garbage itself (mostly fk armor with dex bonus) id rather go on using what i have than some resist blunt %1 lvl 50 gear. i realize its a lazy way to get items rather than grind..so i dont feel bad about people who get shammed while trying to take an easy way out :P but...dang..ive just seen mostly crap items from people. what ngd should have done for the price was..make unique items, unobtainable anywhere else, and not just say a dragonwings bow with some random attributes slapped on. soi would say no, and im glad they DO have amun to try before you buy..or in my case...not buy. |
I wanted a piece of gauntlets, i got like 3 leggings 2 helmets, 2-3 breast plates. One helm and leggigns i wear (due to +mana,+dex) the other are CRAP the finest. Theyre arent much better what i weared before but have some 30ac more (lvl 50 instead lvl 42-45). For the amount of real money i put into that: A SHAME. Wont buy any more of them ever.
|
From reading on the forums and seeing some of the items people have got from the boxes, i am happy i didn't take a gamble and buy some
|
I dont buy more xyme until they change the loot of weapon drop for the platinum boxes. I spend 80 buck to get a decent bow and dont get nothing more that garbage in the same way with my warcraft ... i hope NGD change the loot of the platinum boxes really...

generally happy
Hi,
Iv'e bought a few items with one char and got 3 good epic items out of 4 purchases, so generally happy. Another char (barb) got me a good quality hat of the herbalist wtf!! That needs to be fixed. Will contact ngd regarding that one. Cheers |
i thought they were going to do lucky charms instead?
whatever happened to that idea? would have made more sense..and not the easy way out, to have a wearable (as in equiptable, taking the slot of the pendant) and differing levels of bonus for the price..say 10% 20% or whatever better chances at finding drops or during grinding. that would keep the economy alive in RO rather than just everyone out for themselves and filling ngd's pockets in the hopes of we get what we want. i dont know why but i am against this, even if the items are crap, items should be earned by hard work (ro work...not i go to work and make money work =) id rather drool over someones awesome equip he tricked out of someone, grinded ages for, or bargained for, rather than this "everyone with money" can basically build an instant hero if his pockets are deep enough =/ and i have paid here and there for things i like about this game so im not against supporting ngd monetary wise, but i honestly dont think introducing such items will help the RO economy nor ngds. maybe im just silly and wrong though, just my thoughts. |
I am happy with the boxes I bought, afterall you get what you buy a chance to roll the dice for an item. Some are good.
|
lucky boxes should be purchaseable with gold, [no im not cheep], because $15 is too much for a CHANCE of getting a good item, and an even smaller CHANCE of getting one of your class.
Make the boxes purchaseable with ingame gold, make them expensive 200k or so. The current chance rate, no certanty of getting an item of your class, or even a good one. Though keep Lucky Boxes in premium, same price, 100% chance of getting an item of your class, level, and has bonuses. The bonuses may vary from crap [but still useable for your charachter] to excellent. Quote:

I had enough leftover premium for a platinum lucky box, and I got a decent bow from it. It's only moderately better than the xymerald bow I used to have before it was nerfed by the update. Generally speaking I would say it isn't worth the money.
It's annoying how hard it is to find good items. |
I was interested in these boxes too, but judging from the feedback here, it doesn't seem to be worth the money. I like Cool_is_i's idea. It will sort of be like in-game mounts this way and maybe a good money-sink in game to encourage trade even more.

That way premium boxes and regular loot still have more value than the gold bought stuff. To be honest these boxes is good and fair chance to improve your equipment, the only problem is that people thought they get über epic items so easily. To avoid this NGD should have made it max 1 box per week, its a bit irresponsible to let 'mmo-addicts' spend so much money on virtual items. Since a lot of people seem upset about it they may also end up loosing on this in the long run. |
I voted "I have bought Lucky Box/es and I was not happy with the items."
but actually "I have bought Lucky Box/es and I was not happy with the purchase" - spending that much money on a lottery ticket without of knowledge of so small chances of winning. |

i've been kicking myself pretty hard about this. I've looked at the ads when i log in on my hunter and decided to try it. I spent $8 on premium for a gold box. ( 8 dollars isn't chump change ) and got a lvl 41 magical knight sword +1% cast speed +3 hit chance and +5 hit chance. I really regret paying for this and wish i hadn't....i want my money back >.<
|
Got 3 Platinum boxes and I got 2 level 50 conjurer headgear (1 magical and 1 epic) and 1 epic Lord Conjurer tunic. The tunic is the only one good enough for use IMHO. I guess I'm lucky I got something I can use with just 3 attempts.
|
we have 42 votes from people who bought lucky boxes.
88% are not happy with their purchase. would be nice to hear if any changes are planned? |
I am very suprised of this politic. People are ready to PAY FOR NOTHING! Pay for virtual pleasure...
In a lottery owner must pay for several winners real money (less money than he earn selling tickets). Here we see that owner have not to pay anything. It's a pot of gold! Hey, guys of NGD, hire one jew to make your work more effective! =) |
just a lil hypocritical at the last post :)
you do pay for your own internet dont you? last time i checked i never gained anything other than virtual pleasure for that. same rule applies :D but i agree that paying for virtual items in this game with my own real money is not for me, is why i always walked when everyone else had fancy chocobos to ride :( i think one day i had read a very interesting article about second life, how people had spent hundreds and hundreds of dollars on their virtual avatars, was pretty in depth and fascinating to me. edit: and i didnt even have to mention pr0n :) which is the first thing that popped into my mind about people paying for virtual pleasure LOL. |

1) I gain more money by those channels than I pay for them, hehe. 2) I pay for _information_. As you know, information is the main goods of our century. As for me, I prefer real pleasure. ^^ Sorry everyone for this offtopic post. Moderators are free to kill it. |
This thread is going off topic. For it not to be closed, please stick to the main topic.
|
ok my apologies for the off topic,
however it is hard to keep this thread going without input that is pertinent. alot of people in this thread have asked or wondered if there were any changes or adjustments being considered concerning lucky boxes and the some what subpar epic items many have recieved. we as players cannot answer this question, only you NGD can bring us out of the dark on this. thats the question on our minds, and i believe still unanswered..thats all i have to add to this thread. |
I was very happy with my two first platinum box items. However, I bought two more, and was not very happy. One item was mediocre, not bad but nothing to get excited about. However, the last one I got was a "Normal" marksman armor item, with nothing but a +1 Constitution. I just don't think that is what I would call "platinum" quality. I won't be buying any more of them unless I hear they have gotten a lot better.
I don't expect platinum items to be better than top-quality stuff that can be looted, but I do expect it to be better than normal quality with a +1 in a less-important stat (I would have preferred +Dex, Int, Concentration or Mana over constitution for a marksman). |

If there is a modification for the lucky boxes, it will be in two ways... either we change the pricing (if that is the case, we will give the price difference as a ximerin refund) or we will change the LOOT system (not the luckybox functionality) as we feel that the current model ensures a fair and balanced experienced with non-premium users. regards, - Chilko |
My two cents on the whole issue...
There are a lot of people that have noticed that the problem with leveling with boosters is it requires far fewer mobs to level up. Subsequently, people who level with boosters generally find fewer drops and have a bit less money than those that do it for free. While the repair hammers do effectively cover the money lost by warriors that use XP scrolls (much less so for mages and especially archers), the only option to make up for the possibility of receiving beneficial drops is the lucky boxes. As such, my issue is not with the quality of the items received from using the lucky boxes, but with the fact that they cannot be sold for gold and the overall cost of the lucky boxes themselves. Now I know, I know...everyone is going to start posting all the "craptic" items they've gotten from lucky boxes, but before you do, lets think about this for a minute. How many powerful, usable items (and by that, I mean high level, specific to your subclass, and relevant to the way you play your character) have you gotten from drops? I know for myself, I can count the number on one hand in the entire time that I have played this game, and that is across all of my characters. Partly, I imagine that this may be because once I get to 50, the only time I kill mobs is when I have necrostacy or they interfere with combat. But this can only account for so much. That means, almost the entirety of gear that I have comes from generous players, and I am positive that for many of you, this is the same. Given that the items dropped by mobs AND the items from lucky boxes are for the most part, crap, I think the amount of complaints about lucky box item quality are a bit excessive. But then again, this may also be due to the fact that NGD changed the random item generator to increase the chances of less favorable stat bonuses (+1% resistance to slashing, anyone?) at the same time they implemented lucky boxes. Now, about the price of the lucky boxes... This is a bit more difficult to balance. If the price of lucky boxes is decreased, then the balance will tend to swing towards premium users who have used boosters to level. However, if the price is increased, remains the same, then balance obviously favors those that have not leveled with boosters. At the moment, in my opinion, the price of platinum and (especially) gold lucky boxes is far too high. But then again, how many hours of grinding does it take to yield an item that is decent and how does this compare to the number of XP scrolls used in that period of time? A bit off topic 1: I seriously hope that NGD doesn't change the current loot system to increase the chance of getting "decent" items. I know everyone is going to hate me for saying this, but the fact is, I've already done a lot of leveling, and to toss a proverbial bone to all those that are leveling up their characters now would certainly leave those of us out that are, for the most part, done with PvE in Regnum. It would essentially be the same (or maybe even bigger) as when item rewards were added to quests when players have already completed said quests, thus giving them no way to receive the reward. A bit off topic 2: I GREATLY appreciate NGD's responsiveness in the english forums lately. Way to go guys!:beerchug: Edit: Sorry about the long post, but as this greatly effects not just premium users, but the balance of all items in general, I think it is important that we all think about this issue very seriously. |
sorry....double post from screwed up editing

my 2 scents on the subject although I don't want to leave any trails for tracking.. I have to agree that even though the current loot system does not give you much chances of getting good items it plays it's part in the game - it may be sometimes frustrating and boring to hunt for that breastplate you are missing either by grinding or trading but when you finally get it you know it is something you appreciate, not just a common item. I think this also favors those players who have more time to play, grind or just simply have really good luck but we'll - I'm happy with the chances of getting special drops but either the chances of normal drops or the economy in general should be changed but that is altogether another topic. Thank you for you Chilko again for responding to us. In my opinion, the prizes of the boxes should be cut down - the platinum ones cost me about 8 euros atm :( So I vote for the prize cut-down but not too much because then evryone would be buying as much boxes they need before they get top gear and this would unbalance the game towards those who have more money (would make NGD rich though :D ) OT - the hunt continues: If anyone on Alsius/Horus has a lvl 47+ hunter breastplate with good bonuses to sell pm me. |
I think a price reduction is neccessary - the platinum boxes are really expensive.
If the items are staying the same, then i think that when you buy a box you should be given a choice from a range of items (say 3 or 4 items). You still might not get what you are looking for, but at least you will feel like you had some choice about what you get. I believe this will create fewer complaints. |

From my opinion thoses items totally change the balance. I'm not whining i'm speaking from the good side of the thing. I mean when I look at my hunter armor I feel ashame if I loose a 1 vs 1 against another hunter.
I have a beastmaster gear: - helm with +110 mana - pauldrons with + 5 constitution and some resistance stuff - breastplate with +5 constitution and +145 health - leggings with +69 mana and resistance stuff - gauntlet with 3 resistance and armor boost. The breastplate comes from the first lucky box i bought, other stuff come from loot and lucky boxed bought by clan mates. I'm not even speaking of my bows. So I do feel like lucky boxes change the balance of the game. |

But you have to remember that these items are not unique to lucky boxes - they are available in-game from mobs and bosses. My hunter has some great items - all of them looted from mobs. Against a player that has standard items, balance is also affected here. The lucky boxes merely provide a quicker way of obtaining the good items that you can get in-game - for those who are willing to pay for them. This is standard practice for MMO games, and many games have items that are only available to premium users. All in all, i think the Regnum premium system affects balance a lot less than many other games. |
