In response to Moderators hanging out in chat for funzies.

Stop it. If you want to hang out in realm chat, get a regular character. I've seen one particular moderator hang out in chat quite a bit. It unnerves people and it looks like showing off. Either one creates a bad perception to the players of the NGD team. Here are some other benefits (1 you don't have to field 1 trillion stupid questions, you can just hang out (2 you don't look overbearing and big-brother-ish. It really just looks bad to have a mod socializing on his mod account. Occasionally is one thing, but every other day is another.

Klutu 02-24-2010 03:49 AM

I Don't have any problem with it, if anything Dky Helps out alot in Alsius specially with new players with tips hints + he keeps us up to date with the devs actions. Which is nice

Also it keeps trolls at bay which i don't mind :p

Oh, Ill sum it up.
I disagree with Klutu and agree with Vythica.

DkySven 02-24-2010 11:05 AM

Answering questions is one of the reasons why I log on, which is what I do in the realm chat.

Moderators are humans as every other players too.
Dky can differ between the dky the player and dky the mod as you can see in this forum.
Some people are just jealous of moderator powers...

I hope someday you'd inform the game developers about the constant camping in the game which is never resolved and also the imbalance of realms.

Erm...you've left..

Dky its nice to see you on realm, its shame the other dev's couldnt show their face's a bit more xD

PT_DaAr_PT 02-24-2010 12:12 PM

What the hell? lol, really?

I got no problems with Dky on realm chat answering our ''stupid'' questions that ngd normally has got no time for. =P

Just use the search function. It has been reported endlessly already.

Anpu 02-24-2010 01:07 PM

Keep up good work Dky :thumb:

Haha I find funny that user, who "officially" left a game, doesn't like mod using his mod char for doing guess what: moderating. Mod-moderator-moderating, those words looks like quite related to me.

Kittypretty 02-24-2010 04:04 PM

I'd hate to be a mod honestly..the jealousy part i don't get?

Everytime one logged on in the past it was just spammed..id probably end up swearing or getting tired on day 1 of the innane questions and immature people/responses/conversation.

so i guess it is is honorable that can take it in stride :) and not blow up.

First off, just because I've left doesn't mean that I can't still voice concerns about a game that I've invested quite heavily in. Secondly, I knew you'd disagree with me, if only for the sake of disagreeing. And finally, he's not a dev. That is short for Developer. i.e. someone who develops the game. He's a Moderator and while it's one thing to "moderate" chat, Anpu, it's quite another to sit on your mod account and chit chat with the kiddies.

Why does this concern you of all things? Why not worry more about the game itself and the state it's in?

You say it like this is all he does. Really... he's done more than most people for the game. I think you're overreacting...

But since you are on enough to see a Mod talking in chat to long enough to annoy you to the point of complaining on the forum about it you clearly havent 'left' very effectivly.

Dky is doing a good job, and last I checked becoming a Mod dosnt suddenly mean you dont have the same rights as everyone else (ie being able to talk to other players in game) if anything Id be happy if Mods & Devs took a more active part in in game chat.

And why is that a problem for you? You want all kids for yourself or?

I dont understand, his presence on realm chat brings benefit to realm.
You have someone willing to invest part of his free time to help new players by answering questions, talk with older players and possible share some news he got (as he is a staff from NGD). And plus, he will sure try his the best to make realm chat more pleasant place, eliminating trolls/other kind of bad users.

My point is not to negate you, but I m failing to see good reason for such a "complain".

What are you his spokesman? You sound like you're reciting a resumé for the guy. My point is this; not only does it appear big-brother-ish, but he's not exactly a "righteous" user, I've seen him swear in realm chat ON a mod account... And here you talk about cleaning up the chat and setting a good example...my only problem with that isn't that he swore it's that it said "[Mod]" next his name.

Look, I'm not trying to troll, I'm simply saying that these things could be avoided by simply hanging out in chat as a "Regular user". If you need to do "mod duties" then log into that account. Historically RO hasn't needed official policing, we do that pretty well on our own. We also help the noobies. On our own. We don't need a frackin' hall monitor.

Have you ever been to other Regnum servers with gamemasters?
There is 1 at least online all the time.

If you don't have a problem with swearing, it shouldn't matter who said it or what it said next to their name.

"These things" just seem like excuses to complain to me. He's done nothing wrong and you're making a big deal out of nothing. If you have to, ignore him and move on. No one else seems to have a problem with it, leave him be.

Vythica 02-24-2010 09:15 PM

See that's where you and I agree. He's done nothing wrong (except for one occasion of swearing that I've personally seen) but other than that nothing. But there is a perception that's being put out. And it's a bad one. I have a feeling if anyone else had brought this up it would have been taken more seriously, but because I'm me, this is a chance for some of you to disagree to disagree.

DkySven 02-24-2010 09:41 PM

I said 'shit' once, why are you making such a deal out of it?

Vythica 02-24-2010 09:54 PM

Because when you're on your mod account you represent NGD, not yourself.

Vythica 02-24-2010 10:02 PM

I've had posts removed and "infractions" (whatever those are) by you. For much less than the word which I won't say because if violates terms of use. I'm just saying if you live in a glass house, don't throw bricks. It's one thing to pop on and handle something if it gets out of hand, it's another to breathe down the community's neck 24/7/365.

Gideon_Slack 02-24-2010 10:38 PM

Keep up the good work Dky.

I will say as a Moderator you just can't win. For some strange reason, many MMO players regards game publishers and moderators as "the man" -- who are always trying to screw them somehow. It's almost paranoid.

I've seen this is in realm chat. Someone will ask Dky a question in a polite and respecful manner. Immediately someone will chime to say "stop sucking up to the moderator." Apparently the only proper attitude towards a mod is one of conflict and abuse. See OP.

Angel_de_Combate 02-24-2010 10:38 PM

See here you go opening your mouth without reading. I didn't start this thread to troll, or be trolled, but you seem to have a knack for sticking your nose into things so here:

Now, that we've established that you're wrong, again. I don't want this to be a flame thread, only to say that I feel that it's inappropriate for moderators to behave on one hand like a member of the community and on the other above it.

Hum your the guy who's talking about issues that dont really effect you, because guess what you said you bloody well left the game. Not only that but your trying to tar Dky's name...man...yea and you know what people have posted on this thread that dky is doing a great job...so what he said shit..youve said much worse on forums...talk about standing in a big glass house..

Is that how you handle being pawned? To be perfectly honest you should have done it long ago, since you never really contribute to any thread I post.

Angel_de_Combate 02-24-2010 10:53 PM

Dude your on my ignore, but keep posting till someone gives a shit.

DkySven 02-24-2010 10:54 PM

You can handle personal problems in private messages and when you have someone on ignore, it's a bit pointless to keep talking to them.

Can you please refrain from posting in threads that I start? You never actually contribute anything, you only come and start trouble.

ON topic; I'd like to hear what NGD has to say about this. Maybe Kailer could shed some light on the responsibilities and expectations of a "community volunteer"...

He's obviously not on ignore...

But egos and personal friendships aside, I have to agree that socializing should probably be done on a player account rather than a GM account. Not that it's anything to get too worked up over.

DkySven 02-24-2010 11:01 PM

As far as I am aware, I only answered questions in Ignis' realm chat, I don't see what's bad about helping people with their questions.

Hmm, well not just Ignis realm chat... but it shouldn't be the responsibility or the percieved responsibility of a GM to be handling tasks that should be the community's AoR. To the layman, and people not gracious enough to be your buddy, it would appear that you are socializing on a GM account. You can't be both someone's boss and their friend, there is an inherent conflict of interest. Either be in the community, or moderate the community, but doing both is wrong imho.

And me personaly, I love to see the mods and devs in game. This game is more to me then just war. It's community, friends and family. To see a Mod or Dev in chat bring the regnum community closer and gives the feeling that they do care about the players.

as a side note: why don't you want "BIG BROTHER" watching over you? have you been doing something wrong? xD

What good work, so far I've seen him unfairly kick DB and swear in chat and use an administrative account for "chillin'". We don't even know what his "work" is supposed to be. Maybe he or someone actually on staff at NGD could fill us in on exactly what a "community volunteer" does?

I stand corrected.

DB kicked?

Klutu 02-25-2010 01:33 AM

Vyth.. you notice the only people who agree with you are trolls and people who do nothing but constantly spam and insult on realm chat. Dky has done a excellent job of being on for moderation which horus needs there should be mods on making sure nothing against the rules or no severe arguments break out. Last thing New players need too see are assholes insulting everyone and spamming the chats. things like this can turn players away from the game or a realm.

didn't you already give your "im leaving thread" so why does it bother you? since you don't play anymore
