Rapier vs Spear...

ok im getting to a good lvl and i like the look of the spier and also that it hits harder, but its bad side is it takes a long time between hits...

now im ok with the look of the repier but its just we..small, it doesnt hit as hard as the spier infact the spier is hitting an average of about 110 on a normal attack excluding the cticals, but it hits 1/3 in less time

so im asking what do u guys think is better in the long run?
what do u use?
and also does the look of the rapel ever change?

finnaly im lvl 17 and cant find lvl 17 armor in fisgael actually icant find ANY lvl 17 armor at all it goes strait to like 28 so any idea where i can get that maybe korusum?

thanx:biggrin:

It all depends on your class.
If you are barbarian you won't like to stick with a rapier because it is only one-handed.
Else, it's all up to you.

Rapiers are in general faster but spears have range.

Lvl 17 armour is in korsum.

I wish rapiers were 2H aswell.

Eurgh, but someday when Dual Wield is implimented you will see me with 2 rapiers. Boger used rapiers quite frequently if I remeber, to break down fort doors.

I prefer spears though i have a rapier too. The range advantage, damage and look of the weapon makes it a easy choice for me (yes rapiers look so silly). I only have a rapier because i like to have different weapon speeds.

Besides range and damage, there is a mana cost difference too. Using skills with 100% damage weapon, you spend same amount of mana but your damage is way lower.
If you are a knight and you want to use rapiers, I think is better to use damage buffs than 100% damage skills.

hopefully someday... id quite like to see all classes with 3 sub-class trees like mages have but that would need some hell of a lot of balanceing hmm ideas?

barbs, dule weild, use a single handed wepon in each hand attacks fast, hits average?

marks, defences??

hunters, they should be ONLY class with evasion, it makes marks too good

knights, errrrrm...

yeah archers would need a new base skill tree for this way but meh crossbows??, Knife fighting??? (cqc very fast with lowish dmg??)

Twohanded rapiers goes against the whole principle and functionality of a rapier, they are precision weapons not brute-force weapons. They would be utterly worthless as twohanded, you'd lose the agility and wouldn't gain any damage potential. (In real life, but even though this is a game, orcs and magic I can believe in, twohanded rapiers, no way (: )

Braveheart had a 2 handed rapier  It was cut thin on the sides, made of a light metal. Well maybe it wasn't more of a rapier, like you said it ruins the concept of them as they are weapons for swift thrusts. But still like his weapon :??

See, the only problem I see with dual wield is.... can you really picture a guy running around with 2 spears in his hands? Or 2 maces/hammers? It makes the Dual Wield concept limited to slashing, thin weapons. (Rapier, Sword, Axe)

UmarilsStillHere 06-29-2008 05:04 PM

that pretty much sums up why theres no 2H rapiers, have you even seen someone fencing? thats based around rapier style combat, 2H just defeates the point entirely

+ i think a barb with a fast wepon would be a little silly...
