Game quits in Ubuntu 9.04
I've had Regnum working for some time in Ubuntu 8.X, but decided to upgrade to 9.04 today and have found that I can no longer play. At first it told me that my graphics card was too old after I entered my password and clicked OK. The driconf S3TC thing seemed to fix that, and I can now get to the server selection screen, but when I click "Enter this server" button, it verifies, then just quits where it used to load the game. I've read about this chroot thing, but don't really fancy doing that when I'm not sure if that will fix it. I'm using an ATI X1650 pro and the drivers that came with the upgrade. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Code:
lspci | egrep -i "vga|video" Code:
glxinfo | grep rendering |
Try turning on safe mode. It's probably crashing in libGL on the broken shaders.

I used this at 8.xx version and when I reinstalled to 9.04, used it again. Woks fine. ATI 9250

Safe mode made no difference.
When I run driconf it comes up in regular mode right from the start. 'Enable S3TC texture' is already set to 'Yes'. When I ran Regnum from the terminal, it gave this error upon closing: Code:
~/regnum$ Saving backtrace to crash_backtrace_4651.log Also, when I run xdriinfo, I get: Code:
Screen 0: r300 |

But there is also another solution for your problem: http://regnumonline.com.ar/forum/showthread.php?t=41850 Good luck. |
I just tried the chroot thing, and it now loads the character select screen, but it's the graphics are so flickery that nothing can be made out and so it's still totally unplayable.
I guess I'll be buying a new graphics card soon then. (Can recommend an nVidea card that works well in ubuntu, preferably with the open drivers, and runs Regnum with a decent framerate?) Thanks anyway. |
on ubuntu 8.10, it still crashes what seems to be completely at random. I'll be playing, np, and then as soon as just touch the mouse, RO just totally closes out, all the way to desktop. No warning, no disconnect. I'll be running to Trell, and i go to turn one way or the other, and WHOOM!... desktop.
I have nvidia geforce 7600 512M vid card, and i think my PSU may be underpowering it. BUt that should affect whole computer, not just RO. this is the only app it happens on. |

My friend is using a 9600GT, which is performing really good even in battles with 50+ players and it also works very good under Linux. |
What's the contents of ~/regnum/live/crash_backtrace_4651.log ?
|
I'll probs be buying a new card now (a 9600GT sounds good), but the contents of the crash log is:
Code:
libs/libcore_client.so(_ZN10ClientBase14save_backtraceEv+0x79) [0xb7eb0ab9] |
