Balance Update, New Skill progression system on AMUN! (stage 2)

There is a very wrong design decision in Regnum that has been giving us balance headaches for years. Because all the powers start active (at level one), all classes receive most of the powers in the game as “freebies” overpowering all classes without the need of specialization.

We've been avoiding this change for years now because we know that will have a strong impact, but we truly believe we cannot continue balancing the game without doing this now.

Examples:
  • A Mage using beetle swarm in level 1 can stop a melee attacker without spending a single power point.
  • A Warrior will obtain passive enhancements without spending points.

We have decided to start all powers at level 0 so you would need to train them.

We have added more points from level 1 to 50, so characters would be able to have the same amount of powers in level 5. We are also giving away some more power points to cope.

We can’t give as much as too keep all the level 1 powers you had before because that would not only allow you to do the same thing that we are trying to fix but it would allow characters to have an insane amount of new powers at level 5 (destroying the balance)

We need you guys to test the system and tell us what configurations you can come up with (all the powers of characters in AMUN have been reset for you to try this out).

Please remember 3 things:
  1. 1) This is not a nerf to your class as all classes will have the similar impact by this decision.
  2. 2) You can be as versatile as you were before. You just won’t be able to have so many powers on level 5
  3. 3) If you specialize you will be able to have even MORE powers at level 5

Some other changes included NOW on AMUN
  • Vital surrender will be replaced by a a new Ranged Area heal
  • Greater healing available at level 15
  • Greater healing heals the caster. Mana consumption reduced by 20 points per level.
  • Greater healing has a small instant heal
  • Mana control position is swapped for metabolic control
  • Heal ally position is swapped for Heal Self
  • Regenerate ally position is swapped for regenerate self
  • Summons cannot be healed
  • Onslaught: up to 90 less mana per level. Increased durationby 4 seconds, radius reduced to 6m

BUG fixes
A bug that was only present in AMUN was corrected were the effect of certain auras was infinite

Please post your comments about this and the upcoming balance update here...

 I just was going to suggest that this could be mixed with the MarioOfPersia's suggestion about win skill points with regnum points, once you repaired Alga-Trelle bridge problems. Just this.

did you really have to nerf ONSL AGAIN?....really

everything was good till I read the end "radius reduced to 6m" smh

everything else....well Ill see it in action before I make an opinion

Downbloading the update as I type.

It sounds good on paper, however one thing...

You removed the ability for protection spells to stack - does this mean that Mana Pylon cannot be stacked anymore?

If so.. Then killing boss mobs just became impossible.

Balance is achieved by carefully adjusting a system, it will never be achieved by violently changing the core of how the skill system is implemented over and over.

Apparently you have not learned this yet, apparently you will never learn it.

I really wonder how you come up with such ideas.

I have one question:

What do you mean by this? for some reason I dont get it. Any explanation will do :]

It means that you can still choose to take all those level 1 powers you have now, but just have a little less level 5 powers or you can take all those points from the level 1 skills to get a lot of level 5 powers.

With the first, you will be more versatile and have a more varied skill set, while with the second you are more specialised.

This way hopefully we will see more diversity in skill sets between players.

I've personally have learn a lot in my 16 years working on games.
I wonder how much you know about game development.
Please don't be so naive. We would not try something like this if we didn't truly think that it's for the best.
We cannot continue building a game that's based on such conceptual errors.

You want us to balance something that's impossible to balance by design.

it last's 40% more and costs less mana.
its not a nerf it's actually more powerfull

you'll just have to learn to use in a more efficient way.

6 mts in radius is 12 meters in diameter you should cover a lot of players with that.
