Well its true buying a new "weapon" every lvl is a wast because if you do quests from an elite guard named "tarik" in the back of the town he'll support you with weapons for every lvl till i guess ur 20s.. and other people give you parts of armors rings amulets so maybe you want to check the quests out

The runestones quests don't give equipment for barbs. Only one handed weapons. And sometimes he might give you a shortbow when you wanted a longbow.
