You do not die with Vital Surrender. You simply get transported back to your altar a few seconds after your allies get revived. You spawn at your altar with all of the buffs and debuffs you had when you cast Vital Surrender.
If your allies get to kill an enemy within a limited amount of time from casting Vital Surrender, you will get a fair amount of RPs. Sometimes you will get a lot of RPs!
