Default MMO Sanctuary will be doing a review of RO, and advice from players would be great!

Greetings RO Players.

We're planning on doing a focus piece on Regnum, and I would like to get some advice from players on what you might consider the best/better ways to smartly start a character, and how to get the most out of the playing experience. Here are some questions that might help us focus our playtest:

1. Is there anything a new player can do "wrong" that would make them weakened or end up with a "gimped" character?
2. What are the more difficult and less difficult classes to play?
3. Are there any good areas or aspects to the game that new players tend to miss that we should look into?
4. Does realm choise make a huge difference?
5. At what level does a character begin the RvR content?

Any other advice you have for us to make the experience as comprehensive as possible would be appreciated. Also, if there are any long-time or large guilds that have a presense in the game, I would be interested in running some interview questions by them.

We really think that independant MMO's are the source of innovation and chance in the genre, and that supporting them fosters that creativity. Combined with an open and honest communication policy of non over-censoring members opinions, we think it's a positive atmosphere for gamers and developers alike.

You can email any suggestions to us directly at support@mmosanctuary.com

You can reply to my thread here.

Or you can contact me at our website www.mmosanctuary.com

Thank you,
-MMO Sanctuary

As far as character creation goes, make sure you boost most important bonus... for warlocks i'd say int (even tho const is not bad), for conjs definitely const, barbs str, knights const, marks dex and hunters... I don't know tbh, dex probably.
realm choice... depends, if you're starting a marksman start it in ignis due to some nice items for it, same goes for warlock i'd say. knights seem to be strongest in alsius and archer gear is best in syrtis, along with barb weapons.
real rvr content truely begins at lvl50 like it or not, until then you miss some things to make your char complete for fight i guess (power points). some will argue that you can start experiencing rvr content at as low as lvl 37, which is completely true for conjs, not so true for others...
good areas and aspects of the game... there really is only 1 aspect of this game and that is rvr(or mass pvp). pve doesn't exist and it's a loooooooong and tiresome grind to 50 if you don't buy boosters and that's why the retention rate is low in this game. imo you should ask devs to provide temporary level 50 just for the sake of review, there's nothing to see in the game before it anyway.

I would definitely like to have a chat with one of the developers. Hearing their explanations and plan for future development would clear up a lot of questions. If your remark that the PvE is a weak point in the game, I would hope that would be improving, because that can turn a lot of people away. People like myself, for example, tend to enjoy the journey and not necessarily just to get to the end of the road.

messing up your initial points can bite you in the ass but if in doubt, i find constitiution for all classes except mages (mages should be Intelligence) to be a good bet XD but this mistake rarely get you a "Gimped" char. Ro is great in this way as there is no charge for reseting your skills and gear is the only customisation on stat points that the players get.

Also as a new player you could look to making your experiance more enjoyable by joining a good clan (dont make the mistake of joining the clans that spam you to join at the start). Ask around on realm chat and even here for the best clans to join ^^.

If you play Horus I.M.O the best clans to join would be

Ignis:
Apocalypse, The Dark Legion, Team Pwnie

Syrtis:
Reclamation, Inquisition, Forest Guardians

Alsius:
The Alsirian legion, Samsara, [Error] (that is a clan name)

What makes Regnum such a great game is its community, though as always with any game there are exceptions and the ignore command works very well with them (personally i have 3 people on ignore). It doesnt matter about realm all that changes are the people you meet (though if you use other means of communication with all 3 realms, IRC, Mumble. You will make friends in all 3 realms like most of us have)

As a new player you can explore anywhere in your own realm and in the warzone (beware that at anything less than 30 in the WZ, unless you are in a BIG group, you will be killed very easily) should the mood strike you RO is completely free and nowhere is restricted by level, Our cities and towns arent as big and developed as much as other MMO's but still all of our Initiation zone's in all 3 realm have been redone and look awesome.

One thing you as a reviewer can make a mistake by doing is judging this game on it's leveling system. Quests last up to a decent lvl but there is an awful lot to grind and yes it is tedious but this isnt a PvE game, it is well worth the grind to get a character to 50 where you can experiance war at its best. Though lvl 30+ can comfortably fight (though possibly dying multiple times) with a group at a fort.

As for difficulty of classes each class has it's merrit and each class needs a particular lvl of skill to play but you will learn this as you grind and from listening to advice of the more seasoned players. The only difficulty that varies greatly is the difficulty of grinding them. I.M.O the difficulty is as follows, from easiest to hardest:

Conjurer - Easiest
Hunter
Warlock
Barbarian
Marksman
Knight - Hardest

The final two are not to be chosen lightly as there is a vast ammount of work to do with them.

well i hope this information helps ^^

P.s Also for a glimpse of future development visit the Amun sever

Yeah, PvE is the weakest point in this game. I'd go so far that I'd call it unexistant, aside from infinite grinding to level cap and grinding for drops once you're maxed out (that is bareable if you have nice company) there's nothing much to do in this game (PvE-wise). In-realm bosses spawn every ~24 hours and I forgot how many hours it takes for WZ bosses to reappear so if they're dead you can rule out going for a raid or something. Basically, this game is really simple to review, if you'll be reviewing during server peak hours (when most wars occur) you'd want to give it 11/10 score if you could, on the other hand, if the warzone is dead and you already are level 50... Well you can write your review during that time since you won't have much to do ingame. Hopefully after next graphics update and balance update we get some more PvE content. I don't care honestly, I don't play this game to kill mobs, I play it to kill players.

As for temporary maxed out chars for review I think you should send a mail to support@ngdstudios.com.ar.

Although level 38-44 is advised when you want to be really important in war, I myself went to war since level 18. Personally what I love in this game is fighting alongside or with friends and for that I don't feel much hindered by my level, although of course being a higher level makes the game more fun.

The only good thing with Regnum, and also the thing that makes this game the best MMORPG ever is the RvR combat.
Playing alongside friends you know you can rely on, in fast paced, tactical and action filled open field battles is great and once you get the taste of it all other MMOs will seem dull.

No matter what others says, barbarian is actually a very enjoyable class when you have a lot of support and good allies and a good connection.
It is my favorite class by far, followed by conjurer and then warlock.
Imo. the archer gameplay in RvR in Regnum is way too laid back for my taste, I like to be a part of the action non-stop having to fight to survive.

Regarding your wish to possibly interview old and large clans, you can count me in.
I'm the leader of Valhalla, probably the most active English clan on RA and it has been around since ~March-April 2007.

Good luck, I am looking forward to your review

An advice: if NGD gives you a temporary level 50 character, ask them to create 1 for Horus and 1 for RA and try both.
The action varies a lot between the both servers.

Hello,

Well a lot of the players here have said most of the important things about the game, so there not much to say on my part.

The best part of the Regnum Online Community is the community itself, I have been playing this game since December of 2006 (Since its beta) and the community and the interaction the developers give to its community is what keeps me playing along with the features, for me personally those things go first before the features, the features currently in-game are nice.

Regarding your interview with clans, I am the leader of The Dark Legion Clan on the English speaking server Horus.

You can send me a PM here or go to our clan website forum and ask us there anything you want, our members and myself would answer your questions of your interview:

www.thedarklegion.org (Portal)
www.thedarklegion.org/phpbb (Forum)

We look forward to your interview.

Regards,

Some points about Regnum to add to what's been said:

1) Gear isn't very important. PvP games can be unbalanced and turned into epeener sessions by over-emphasis on gear. All things being equal, gear makes a marginal difference in Regnum.

2) Non-instanced PvP. Open world RvR means anything can happen, leading to frequent "wow" moments. On other hand, there can be downtime as you wait for things to happen. But downtime is unfairly maligned in other MMO's. This is when you get to chat and know your realm-mates, leading to the tight Regnum community everyone enjoys.

3) Classes are balanced for RvR, not PvP. Regnum is a game for people who want team-based PvP. Some classes are far better than others 1 on 1.

4) No raids/moderate quest grind. For many people this is a feature, not a bug. PvE supplements the RvR game and is not an alternative to it. In the lower levels, there is a quest "journey" where you learn about the realm, but after that it is grinding in the war zone as you wait for some action. Personally, I'll take straight-ahead mob grinding over grinding dressed up as a raid or quest. Any kind of PvE A.I. is going to be dumb compared to another human being in PvP.

5) International community on the Horus server. Since there is currently just one English server (Horus) it's playerbase is worldwide. Early on, because of timezone differences, there were some dead play times. But now the RvR is pretty much non-stop throughout the day. Meeting people from around the world is cool too.

One last point: If you want to experience the game as a level 50, maybe one of the clans can set you up with one.

Hi!

Like any other game, Regnum Online has it's good parts and bad parts. Gideon and Znurre summed it up nicely: the realm vs realm aspect of this game and the awesome community is really what draws a lot of us here to stay. Nothing is more fun than trying to out-think, out-maneuver and out-play your opponents through clever team work with your friends in the game!

Regarding your search for clans to interview, I am part of clan Inquisition. The clan is now entering its third year in the game. We may not be the biggest clan in terms of population, but we are one of the oldest in the game, and one of the most active in the international server Horus. We cater to players of all skill levels from new comers to players that have been playing as far back as open beta.

Our clan would be happy to help you gather information in the game! Send me a PM with your questions or you can visit our portal at www.claninquisition.org and speak with our members via our forums.

Good luck and we are looking forward to seeing your review!
