Default Ambush

Am I the only one having trouble with ambush? It seems to always work when it's used against me. I used it 14 times yesterday. Three times it was resisted, once it worked as it should when it's not resisted, and the other ten times it supposedly worked but all I saw was a blue aura around the target but the target didn't fall and I got no message saying it was resisted. And it's been like this for a long time now. Yesterday was the first time I kept stats on it. So, is it my problem or everyones? And if it's everyones, does anyone know when or if it's going to get fixed? It's not in the new changelog and it obviously wasn't in the last patch either.

I've experienced the same. no resist message, just a blue aura around the other player.

same, no messages, no animation, just blue aura. that made me stop using it anymore.

Some *effects* have a second layer of resistance. For Knock Down, it's based on the Constitution stat and there are anti-knock down buffs that Barbs, Conjurers and Knights have (and some are passive).

Choose wisely who to knock down, this is the most powerful effect, fortunately it doesn't work equally on all. The good thing is, it saves YOUR ass too. A lot. When you get terrored at war too...

So this is NOT a bug. The spell wasn't resisted, but the KD was.

PS: There is a problem with the random function NDG is using, I've been saying it previously, it doesn't have an even distribution (meaning you have several resists in a row). It can make you either very lucky or very unlucky for a short time.

So what? You should learn how this game works before "sheeshing" at me... There are two layers of resistance for some *effects*. That Ambush would give you 500dmg or not changes nothing. This is exactly the same behaviour as Will Domain. This is how the game is designed. Your preferred spells, namely Son of the Wind & Spell Eludes, act on the first layer; a lot of classes have spells or passives which work on the second layer: preventing Knock Down: the stat Constitution, Mind Blank [Conjurers], Unstoppable Madness [Barbarians], Defensive stance [Warriors], Run over [Knights], Mirage [Conjurers].

Now isn't it fair that they resist the KD, even if they didn't resist the power?

What he meant was, for knock down to take effect it has to go through 2 layers. The first is spell resistance, the second is against constitution. Not that Ambush has 2 effects.

Explanation of ambush 101

Ambush has a basic 33.333 chance of success
and this is why...

1) you can cast and it fails to cast
2) you can cast and it contacts the enemy and it is resisted
3) you can cast and it contacts the enemy and is not resisted

if you cast and it fails to cast
you see resisted / enemy sees resisted <blue smoke>

if you cast and it contacts but resisted
you see success / enemy sees success but will not fall <blue smoke>

if you cast and it contacts and is not resisted
you will see success / enemy will see success and will fall <blue smoke + halo>

DM, you're supposing here that on every char, Resist Power is 33%, and that Resist KD is 50% (or the opposite), which is simply false .

The chances of resist depend. So Ambush may have 80% of chance to succeed on a player (e.g a low level mage) and only 30% on another (a knight with Protector on).

But you're right though that you can't suppose it will work before casting it. Just pray. Or choose wisely.

Just so you know, as I said, it has nothing to do with Ambush itself. It is the same for all KD spells: Feint, Trip, Will Domain, etc. And it's about the same with Stun (but there are fewer anti-stun buffs).

Constitution resist knockdown, ambush is a knowckdown, when a pj resist a effect no message is showed. End of the story

If you want a proof of it go with a barb to the colosseum and use things like freeze or silence on him when he has unnostoppable madness. The skill is not resisted but the effect dont work because of the 90% resistance and you go not message at all.
