This works for any ally in the area. If your ally left the area, he loses every barrier points, and if he returns to the area his barrier points start from 0 again. It is IMPORTANT to remember that this spell DO NOT AFFECT THE CASTER. Remember also, that Aura type spells are area spells that moves along with the caster. So you lose the effect if you leave the area or if the area leaves you (the caster moves away from you). For example: You enter the area and stay there for 10 seconds so you now have 300 barrier points (+30x10=300). After 10 seconds you get hit by a 600 damage attack, so you lose your 300 barrier points and also lose 300 health points. Since you did not leave the area, the barrier points keep increasing, but since you lost them because the attack they start from 0 again. After 15 seconds (without being attack by anyone) you have 450 barrier points, and someone attacks you for 200 damage. So this time you do not lose any health, but you lose 200 barrier points. If you stay in the area, your points keep increasing from 250. But lets imagine after this, when you still have 250 barrier points, you decide to leave the area (to chase an enemy or something). When you step out of the area you instantly lose your remaining 250 barrier points.

If you want to increase your mana count (the blue bar at the top left below HP bar), then yes. some people say "it's a waste of points" some say "it's very important"..... Just try and notice the difference. You might like it, you might not.

About the first question, Mana Pylon last 60 seconds and on level 5 it adds +30 barrier points per second, it means 60x30=1800. But that would only work if you stay the hole time on the area and no one attacks you. To reach 1800 barrier points is pretty useless because when the spell end (after 60 seconds) you lose all the barrier points.
So I guess the limit of 2500 only works for mages using Energy Barrier. Energy Barrier gives you +1000 barrier points and you can gain another +1500 more if AN ALLY cast Mana Pylon and you stay close to him for 50 seconds without being hit. But the spell is not about how many barrier points can you get at limit, this spell is meant to be like Mayor Healing. I mean is a good way to "reduce" the damage. Last time I checked Mana Pool increases 100 mana points per level. So it is +100 on level 1, up to +500 on level 5. This is a passive spell, so it affect your maximum mana points. Mana is very important for mages, because the damage mages can do without mana is little. Also spells are kind of expensive for mages. If you compare SOME spells from another classes you realize that mages have similar effect/damage with more mana cost. I guess is one of those "must have" skills, but sometimes there is no need to use it on level 5, it depends on what spells you have or the +mana items you are wearing.
