Newbie mage questions
I just started a mage (first char.) and I'm wondering about some things.
I'm not sure which sub-class to go for; I know that a conjurer would have summons, plus buff and support spells, but would that be enough to fight? I'd hate to have to find a party every time I want to grind, at least until I found a guild. So how good are they at soloing? On the other hand, warlock sounds like it would be better at fighting, but I'd be less useful in a group or in the WZ. I think they gut a few curses, although I'm not sure (Is there a list of skills somewhere? That would be really helpful.) but I'd be dealing much more damage. I'm just wondering how useful they are in a group? Any thoughts? If it changes anything, my char is a lvl 7 (as of now) human mage in Alsius. |

if you want to play a supporting chat, go for conj
if however you wanna fight go for lock (a lock can steal a conjurers summons at a higher lvl btw)

Hi pharo,
Ink is right, a Conjurer is first and foremost a support class. By that I mean Conju's heal people, give them mana, buff them and rez them etc. etc. Some people play Conju's from an offensive perspective, and are reffered to as "Warju/rers." However, playing a Conju in an offensive (E.g. Using attack spells and a summon) at war is NOT a good idea*. A Conju is sooooo much more effective at healing and supporting than they could ever be by being a warju. A Warlock (Lock) is the opposite. Like I always say, if you want to play an offensive based mage, play a WARLOCK. Locks are great for AOE's, health drain, debuffs, good damage and crowd control. Both classes will keep you busy at war and are both great fun to play. For both a list and setup simulator check out this link: CW TRAINER *Before any flame wars start, this is only mu opinion, but is also a general opinion.

conjs can solo very well, especially when they get a few key spells.
first is energy borrow, youll need to rely on that for obtaining mana in the early levels..that or resting. after you get ambitious sacrifice though, you are pretty much self sufficient to grind solo, and your grind rate skyrockets. you can also (later levels when you have enough lvl 3 skills maybe) just go full support conj in groups, and earn some nice xp too, but by no means does a conj NEED to, to grind.

I leveled conjururor from 1 to 50 in 3 months. You can level it very fast because u have summon, your health and mana production and VERY good Staff Mastery spell tree.
Later in war I realized that there is many possibillities between full support and full attack conjuror. Because of that, you don't have to choose one of the extremes. but be support as much as you want, or be atacker as much as you want. And even in full attack setup, conjuror can heal well and give mana well, too. |

Thanks for the replies. A few more questions about some individual posts:
@Mattdoesrock What exactly do Health Drain and crowd control mean? Health drain sounds like a DoT, but I have no idea for crowd control. @Puppypaws What do they use to solo, exactly? Just summons? Or do they have some attack spells? And as a general question, do you get XP (or RP) for healing people? |

Locks have two health drain skills, Vampirism and Soul Keeper. Both are located in the Necromancy skill tree.
Neither is a DoT. Vampirism on level 5 (the highest level) drains 450 - 600 hp and Soul Keeper drains 1,000. Both have their advantages and disadvantages; that doesn't mean choose one or the other, use both! By "crowd control" or CC, I mean things like immobilisation, slowing down enemies, making it so they cannot attack, knocking them down etc. etc. Things like that. Nasically controlling your opponant. Remember to check out the TRAINER to help with skills.

Okay, checked it out. I think I'm gonna go for warlock. Any suggestions on which trees I have now will be useful for it?
Also, what does will domain do? The description says It bends the opponents will, so do I get to control them? |

for the trees just experiment with everything, see what you like best. you could always reskill and reskill. although i'd say lightning is your best friend for leveling. will domain knocks them down. you can't control them, that would be sic though.

As a warlock your main skill tree's will be:
Mental: For crowd control, Mana Control: For protection and mana, Arcania: For damage and the last skill "Sultars Terror" is one of a Warlocks most imfamous spells, Necromancy: For health drains, Elements: For damage. Of course each skill tree is far more diverse than what I explained, but that's the basics anyway. "Will Domain" is a skill in the Mental tree, it simply knocks your opponant down for x seconds depending on the level.
