Regnum Online on a Console?
I'm just wondering if it would be possible to make Regnum Online onto the Console machines (Ps3/360)
Also would people be interested in this?

When I first read the title, I thought "console" as in a terminal.
I had a hard time imagining playing Regnum as CLI. On topic, I voted no. I don't own a console, and even if I did my opinion is that console games and computer games are different things. When you try to mix them, you end up making compromises that can hurt the other platform, as is the case with many console ports.

They'd have to play around with the whole GUI, chat would be a problem unless you get everyone on headsets, and porting to a mac has been enough of a pain to get kinda-sort of working. It would be a big job to get it working on an xbox, let alone a ps3, and I think someone at NGD said the ps3 processor is incompatible anyway or something, was a while back.
Its hard enough to push a MMO specially developed for consoles and get it working, let alone port one over from here, and make all the necessary changes, they'd essentially end up with two game versions to maintain. And with those consoles coming to the end of their cycles by the time the one dev they can spare is half way done with the port they'll be outdated I'd like to see a MMO really succeed on a console one day, but Regnum isn't the one to do it

NGD even can't fix bugs and implement correctly working new features. Don't give them such idea for now

No chance whatsoever now anyway though since OtherOS has been (officially) removed on the PS3. As for MMO's on consoles, it doesn't work because it isn't a success financially. The console market follows a completely different genre. There are other lesser reasons like how even IF the MMO is successful the platform holders will demand a share of the already minuscule profits. If it's an MMO with Regnum's quality... then don't make me laugh. Voice chat has been taking over the last few years, but keyboard text chat is still there, and it's problematic to implement a normal working text chat system. Another problem is development cycles, consoles are scrapped and new ones enter the market every few years, by the time a team would finish porting an MMO to a console they would already be behind in time, and an MMO is a BIG project because a (good) MMO is the size of a couple games in one. So the cost is big, and the commitment for console gamers is different. I could go on and on, but I'm sure you see why this is a waste of money and resources. If it was worth it Blizzard would have done it by now. tl;dr fuck consoles and stick with the glorious PC master race. Last edited by -Logan-; 09-04-2011 at 10:02 AM. |

The main issue is time, money and too much work for this small team. But wee forget a think...they are very skilled. Even huge companys dose not have 3 platforms game(with native clients) even they have over 200 employers and bug testers teams. For a small company with a few programers doing a great job..this means skills....for tons of details they need numbers...it's that what dose not have. |
