50% XP Boost on Haven this weekend
http://www.gamesamba.com/forum/ro-ev...ven-t5249.html
Quote:
On a side note, seems we non-GS players on Haven ought to register on the gamesamba forum to tell NGD/GameSamba what we think about XP boosts. Speaking for myself, I bought Ximerin on the recent day of 100% server boost, and would not have done so otherwise... I already levelled 7 chars to "max" level (lvl50), and came back to war, not to grind endlessly! (Edit: "max" level as in the old lvl50 cap!)

Yes, i do think GameSamba sucks, and i do think that merging servers sucks. But FFS, NOBODY forces you to grind, i mean 7 chars maxed?! You must be crazy.

Note, I don't think you have to register for voting in that pool. Just click on the link and cast your vote on whatever you like the most

From what I've seen, most players who want XP bonuses only want them to be able to endlessly grind characters because, supposedly, if they don't grind all subclasses to 60 A BIG SCARY MONSTER WILL EAT THEM ALIVE.
"WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE THINK OF THE NEW PLAYERS?!?!" is the most overused excuse I hear. A new player does not just come to try a new online game because it offers bonuses. "No bonuses? This game sucks, I'm out" is not a new player's response, however, it is from a new character. See the difference? And "I bought a booster during the last bonus" is an alternative saying for "I would eventually have bought a booster, but the XP bonus made me do it that day. Can't wait for the next XP bonus or else I won't buy!". This is the mentality that recursive XP bonuses create. Just admit it, it's a selfish demand to be able to grind continuously faster and cheaper. Even I want it because I could care less about the negative side effects. On a side note, how are 184 votes not considered enough? That's probably almost half of the server's average population. They didn't seem to have a problem deciding from only 36 votes to disallow warmaster abilities from their tournament.

Why not create a similar poll here, and show them what this half of the population thinks.

Just saying, I completely understand why NGD would want to milk the existing playerbase, they invested a lot in this game, and after all its popularity probably peaked some time ago. But the new PvE XP curve is way over the top for an RvR game, and to believe that it does not hurt player retention for both new and old players is quite silly. Saying people want faster levelling because they would like to grind all the time, is just bonkers logic. Did you mean to raise some actual points for discussion (like the negative side effects you allude to), or were you just being negative for the sake of it?

I was taking a general approach at the topic, I didn't point my finger at anyone specificaly. It's not about letting NGD milk the remaining playerbase, it's about the fact that people believe that bonuses should be mandatory because leveling is IMPOSSIBRU without them.
And if you're struggling to get 1 of them to 50-60, then why did you write "I already levelled 7 chars to "max" level"? Are you referring to the old level cap, 50? I am confused, you didn't have any problem to make ~35.000.000 experience but now you're struggling with already War-ready characters to make 1/4 of that for each? There's nobody forcing you to grind to the max level except yourself because you believe you can't do anything before reaching it. Obviously, you can't be as much omagawdpowerful like high level players but you do make a difference. I play a level 51 knight as of now and I "grind" in wars with no problem and I still have some fun(Game gets boring fast nowadays). And it's a fact that the chance to grind faster and cheaper makes people want to grind more. It's common sense, why would you let that opportunity go away? Negative side effects would be player's changed mentality but I don't care because I am not GameSamba nor NGD, thus it doesn't affect me.

i understand your point of view daar and i agree completely xp boosts will spoil the players... but we shouldn't only see the negativism of things, it has positive aspects to it aswell
An example the xp boosts granted in the past in Raven a possibility to balance the realms populations, alsius was one day underpop'd, after some weeks it had a huge army of warrior characters that balanced things a bit, xp can do exacly that, balance things a bit, and 50% isnt much to cause a big difference that could disrupt balance much, so its mostly a strategy to get ppl to play more often during weekends idk... |

As for myself I have enjoyed playing in the WZ on most levels between 16-54, but I would not blame anyone who do want to be lvl60 before they face others in RvR/PvP. Especially not lately when a lvl 60 WM barb will pretty much 1-hit-kill anything below lvl 40~. Quote:

If this is making players "spoiled", then all RO players from before WM are indeed spoiled... I think the opposite is true, they are above average enduring and overbearing with the game's flaws, if you compare RO to most other contemporary games. (Besides, a game is a game, and if it does not "spoil" its users by letting them enjoy it, it is dead) Player-online-hours is a finite resource, if you decrease the time needed for PvE in this game, you get more available for RvR. If players think the PvE is more rewarding than the RvR, surely that is a different problem that were not caused by XP boosts, and should be solved by improving the RvR experience instead.
