Exclamation Multirealmers 4 Realmbalance

Just a simple idea:
We've got many multirealmers..use them to get a better realmbalance.
Would be very easy to do by blocking the multirealmchars of the most populated realm. And it would be enough to block lvl45+ so lower chars could go on grinding.
Perhaps in case of invasions while counter is running instead of switching to the strongest realm - perhaps all the time.
(Who wants to be able to log on to his "mainrealm" all the time, would be able to do by deleting the multirealmchars at his second realm...).

Realmbalance wouldn't be perfect - but the factor of the multirealmaccounts, that was making it becomes worse would work in the right direction.

Code:
procedure 'most_populated_realm'; values: yes/no
if "no" = do nothing
if "yes" = do 'lvl_checkup'

procedure 'lvl_checkup'; values: yes/no
if < lvl45 = do nothing
if =lvl45 or higher = do 'multirealmacc_checkup'

procedure 'multirealmacc_checkup'; values: yes/no
if "no" = do nothing
if "yes" = block character
show message "Realmbalanceblock: You cant log to this realm atm. Please try again later"
Hard to imagine someone could be able to code it...

PS: An own thread now to finally get an answer. Can't be that difficult, NGD.

It sounds like a good plan. Just how will they know which existing and new accounts are for multirealming and which is the 'mainrealm'? If NGD could get that to work, the downhill imbalance could be reduced.

You dont need the information "mainrealm" cause there is a simple database table.
If you've got chars at two realms you've got a multirealmaccount = 2 realms. Nothing else is needed...value 1 or 2.
Believe me, it's really simple to realize.

And what if this player has spent money on both characters? It would be unethical to take away something that someone has already paid for.

Sure block new accounts from joining a certain realm, but taking away something that is already existing seems a bit wrong to me. Unless I'm misunderstanding your suggestion, in which case ignore what I just said.

New players can't create Multirealmaccounts... And you don't have to delete yours if you don't won't. You just wouldn't be able to use it all the time.
Think about unethical again pls.

Your suggestion is not bad. But you have to consider that there are many multirealmers who have more than 1 account to play this game. So should NGD disadvantage the "honest" multirealmers with only 1 account?

But I think there are more viable ways to get better realm balance. NGD could offer a realm change scroll to the players of the most overpopulated realm. Or a registration lock for new players to the most overpopulated realm would help in the longterm. The registration lock wouldn't be a very responsive solution though.

well NGD could just combine some approaches of above for perfect realm balance:
  • block the most overpopulated realm to new users
  • cheap realm change scrolls for players of the overpopulated realm
  • allow everyone to have chars in different realms in just one account
  • block highlevel chars of a certain realm to login, if their realm has already more than 40% of the whole server population online.
If NGD did all this, it would be probably a bit too drastic. If there is always perfect realm balance, it could get a bit boring as well. But at least not hopeless and demotivating for players of the underpopated realms like it is curretnly very often.

Ah, yes, but how does NGD know that you have two accounts in two realms?

If someone wants to play multirealm style, they won't exactly tell NGD that they have two accounts, and if they play one realm they can pretend like it's their only account.

If they play the other realm, they can pretend like it's their only account. My question is how NGD figures this out.

I think he is referring to the ten or so players who played a different realm on Horus than what they did on Raven on an account with the same name and as a result of the merge they both exist on the same Haven account.

I think that the multirealm accounts are only a problem at the german Valhalla server because this is a merge of previous Muspell and Niflheim servers and it was very common to play one realm on Muspoell and another realm on Niflheim.
I guess that more than 50% of the chars above level 45 are multirealm accounts ( = 1 account with characters in 2 realms) there so great part of a realm can switch at once to another realm.

I guess he is reffering even more to the much more then 10 players which played different realms in Niflheim and Muspell on one account
