Default Gaming Mouse Pointer Freezes

Well, I recently got a new PC (just for CoR ). The specs are (in case they are relevant to anything related with the mouse issue): Lenovo (not sure which model), Core i5 processor @ 3.20ghz, GeForce GT 720 graphics card, 8GB of RAM, running windows 8.1 OS. I decided to grab the Razer naga gaming mouse too, and for the first week or so it worked perfect. Starting a few days ago, my mouse cursor has been freezing on the screen a lot, which is obviously no good for CoR. I looked up how to fix the problem but everything I've tried has done nothing to fix it. It freezes for about 10-20 seconds sometimes. I've tried everything this page http://www.compuchenna.co.uk/my-mouse-keeps-freezing/ has suggested, except for this "registry error" thing. It's just extremely annoying for this to happen to a 700$ PC and 80$ mouse after only a couple weeks.

My questions to the community are: Does anyone else use this mouse (or any mouse I guess) and have had the same problem? Did you find a solution for it? Could it be the Razer Synapse program that's the cause? Do I need to clear even more RAM with task manager? I'm still a noob with this stuff, so any help is appreciated.

Just the mouse that freezes? So the game still plays in the background (you can see mobs/players moving)? What about keyboard input? Can you cast spells on your quickbar while the mouse is frozen?

Have you tried installing the drivers from here? http://www.razerzone.com/synapse2

if you already have synapse installed, you might want to remove them first. Control Panel -> Programs and Features

EDIT: Also, some people have said running synapse under compatibility mode for Windows 7 seems to work.

Yeah it's just the mouse, everything else on the screen seems to have been working in the background as usual. But no, I can't click on anything on the screen when it's frozen. Can't turn with the mouse, select targets or click on stuff on the quickbar.

I originally tried installing it when I plugged in the mouse, but it didn't seem to be making any progress, so I did have to install it from the site. I actually uninstalled synapse a little while ago, and so far no mouse freezes. It works, but I kinda want to be able to change the sensitivity, and set the top buttons on the mouse (under the wheel) for certain things in the game. Maybe doing as you said will work, and running it under windows 7 mode will work. I'll try re-installing synapse and see if I can find out how to set it to windows 7. If it automatically runs under windows 8.1 mode, and the problem occurs again, then I guess it's safe to assume it's synapse that's the reason for this, and I'll have to just use the mouse without it.

From my experience with Razer Mice (Currently using the Razer 2014 Imperator), certain games will only support up to a certain polling rate. Setting the polling rate higher than the game can handle can cause cursor 'sticking' and buttons 'sticking'. Not sure what polling rate the Naga is capable of, or what the Regnum engine can handle. Try re-installing the synapse software and setting the polling rate on 500Hz or below.

The other thing it could be is a faulty product (Razer are a well known company, but also well known for dishing out dodgy items). I've had a couple of items from them go wrong. If no solution arises I would send it back for a replacement.

I re-installed synapse a few days ago and it seemed to be working fine again, until yesterday when it froze a few times. I checked synapse and the polling rate is set to 500, with the options of 125, 500 and 1000. If I put it to 125 would that hurt the performance of anything?

A mouse’s polling rate is how often the cursor position is reported. A higher polling rate decreases the lag that occurs between when you move your mouse and when the movement shows up on your screen. But actually, the real-life benefits of a higher polling rate are slim. I am almost certain you would notice little or no difference between 125Hz and 1000Hz.

This was just a stab in the dark solution anyway, is it only when playing Regnum that it freezes?

The polling rate has affected 1 game so far in my entire gaming life - Its probably a faulty mouse or a faulty USB connection.

Try using a different USB port also.
