Concepts of MMORPG

Hi Everyone,

I want to share with you a analisis that My friend Drakogrox Posted in the spanish forum of his experience in this type of games or similar.

First thing first I want to explain to you some concepts of certain distict things of the game. Alot of this information he took from the wikipedia, mmosite and some other relevant sites that sticks to the topic itself.

PvP (Player VS Player):
Player versus player, or PvP, is competitive interaction within a game between two live participants. This is in contrast to games where players compete against computer controlled opponent, which is similarly referred to as player versus environment (PvE) or player versus monster (PvM). PvP is a type of combat in MMORPGs,any player can intervine in PvP. MUDs and other computer role-playing games (CRPGs), pitting one player's 'skill' against another's, In certain MMORPG PvP is more develop then others.

PvE (Player VS Environment):

Player VS Environment is the activities that are most common in games(Regnum for example), Is the possibility of interacting with the things around you.

The example most common in PvE and that can be fun in any game is the possibility to kill mobs to gain lvl, make quest and venture across the world and visit towns and speak with NPC(Town People). In some other games this is well developed and includes professions that you can specialize in, also the existence of dungeons with boss mobs that are very powerful where alot of users gather to defeat it.

RvR (Realm Vs Realm):

This is modelize in the Realm vs Realm fight one another.

RvR consist of 2 basic things:

The player at the start of the game choices his realm or faction, the one he/she must defend and fight for during he/she play time.

- When there is 2 or more realms or factions, RvR becomes much more competitive because there would be alot of players attacking your realm at any given moment in a specific location such as forts/castles or any location the player goes to. So there would be alot of wars betweens the realms fighting for a territory or honor or for meterial.

1v1(1 vs 1 Or Duel):

Not to generate any confusion, this is similar to PvP and has nothing to do with RvR.

Seems to confuse alot of people with the PvP concept, because Player vs player you immediate think is 1 vs 1, but is not like that because in PvP any player/s can intervine.

A duel ( 1 vs 1 ) is basically a match between 2 players that face each other, with having anyone intervine. Is the only general possible to battle against a ally/enemy, this can happen in multiple areas such as arenas or a specific areas where such thing can happen using a special command or a special item.

Now to summarize this up, Regnum Online has this characteristics.

The PvE exist in Regnum Online, because we do quest, we train our character and even when we go hunting and see the world.

The PvP also exist in Regnum Online, because up to this point, we go to warzone or enter the arena, we expose ourselfs to any other character to attack us and us to him, which is a battle between alot of players without the numbers being important.

The RvR I dont think I have to explain much,in Regnum there is 3 realms(Realm of Syrtis, Realm of Ignis and Realm of Alsius) where there is a dispute to take forts/castles, and in the future the invasions, which the invasions is one of the principal of Regnum.

The Duel(1v1) Is not used much in Regnum, where you depend of your allies and they depend of you. The 1v1 only involves 2 players, which can happen at the arena or in warzone with a enemy player.

Is wrong saying PvP when its a duel between to players, which I explained before, 1v1 is just a variant of PvP.

This is well said in any FAQ or MMO, which is inportant for us to keep that in mind.

all games are role playing in some form or another, you are playing a game that has a storyline and you follow it, you are playing the role of the hero. There hasn't been a game yet thats fully open ended letting you ignore the story and do whatever you want. Like you can't just go and setup sho in another realm from the one you started in and get yourself setup as a shop or whatever you like. You follow the story, you do the uests and you kill for your realm.

Well then every game would be a rp'ing game as every game has a story line

Not completely true devil.. obviously you've never watched me and maulus sit on the beach disscusing the meaning of life..... Which ends as soon as he steals my staff and hides it... In which case I end up killing him....

ROFL, well it's not FOCUSED on roleplay then

, but I've rp'ed too, it was funny. My staff didn't get stolen though \o/ I'll pwn maulus if he tries to pwn me in this game too

Yeah its kinda good its not focused though, typically games focused around rp make devs lazy. Although thats a different disscussion.

It belongs as a side thing... if you ask me.

But its still halarious when you try to do it to a spanish player... But now... Im sure *you* know all about that don't you?

Now to get back on topic... wait, what /is/ the topic even about? Sounded more like a statement to me

lol :D, yeah I know a bit about it :p.

But the devs being lazy, only one game I know is focused aruond rp ;).
