mac OS client

time for the periodic rant again.

I want a mac client! I want to be able to play this on a mac!
I have no want (or need) of windows and linux has some drawbacks on x86_64.

so.. I WANT A MAC CLIENT!

well, the want is actually a real need.
I have run this game in linux (it works, but tends to crash often (freezes, core dumps and segfaults) and there is a windows version (which on a friends vista OS running top of the line hardware not only froze, but took the entire OS with it!).

There is a need for a mac OS X client and it isn't that hard to port over (especially considering the devs here use C++ for the linux version client).

so. with more than 35% of the available marketplace runnong OS X, it would make good financial sense to have a client for that OS. It might also increase the popularity of the game across multiple platforms...

so, this want is a lot more than just a want. ITS A REAL NEED!

Figures from www.w3schools.com, Mac 4.4%. So I'm not quite sure where you got more than 35% from. I don't even have a friend that uses a Mac I could name. Also your stability probelms are personal, I've never had any problem with stability on linux.

If more than 35% of people used macs, and the vast proportion of users suffered unplayable stability problems, then there would be an implicit need for a mac version, however since neither of these facts are true, I doubt it's a priority for the developers, who have a huge windows and linux user base to develop for. It would also mean maintaining three different OS versions, given the amount of complaints, queries and requests the devs already suffer regarding people being impatient to see new features and fixes, supporting another version of the client would probably be like asking them to...

Well do do something they don't want to do.

well technically your not gonna die if you don't get it and nothing bad will happen if you don't so it is a more want than a need

but seriously designing a mac is something that could get ngd more users

I am self employed, I work on a great many machines over the course of a year. my stats indicate that the market place is about 60% windows. I haven't seen as many linux machines, but I have spent at least 1/3rd of my time working on mac OS X machines.

BTW, the stats from the site listed above are based on the popularity of the end users 'browser choice' and may not necessarily reflect the real OS platform. IMHO, logs don't tell the whole story. Also, given how the browsers in Windows platforms work, its likely the logs have skewed results due to the number of attempts a browser might make to a website, etc.

in any case, I see a lot more macs around the ASU college campus area than just about any other platform.

in my case, that may mean my particular beliefs are region specific. Still, I only work on them, I don't do much else with them.

When I look at researchers in computer science, I see loooot of Linux.
When I look at designers or researchers in human factors, I see loooot of Mac.
When I look at everyone else, I see loooooooot of Windows.

30% is really a lot, don't think it's so high. By the way, if you have segmentation faults, core dumps and freeze, I think you should try to run the game with a computer with more memory.

Yay, everyone knows that people but expensive pcs with operatings systems that they dont know and must buy in non-so-common shops.

People play this at their homes, macs are common in Professional PC s and media editing.. But, at homes?

O! It's nice because i strongly disagree.
There is many games "Windows only" and therefore there is strong competition on this market. With all respect, NDG isn't big time player on this market. So instead competing on Windows market they should get into niche of other OS's. Good example of it is Linux client. Check how many ppl started to play Regnum only because of Linux native client.
They could attract Mac users and i assure you, they aren't poor ppl.

NGD could profile itself as a company who produces for every OS, it can bring them fame(=money).
