I also see a huge hole in the ground.

PS: I have windows XP. The Vista you see is a skin,

First of all, quit the game and start the launcher again.
Go to options and tick the box "download all resources at once".

Report back in about 1 hour when all resources are downloaded

You might need to restart the game again after all resources are downloaded, to "populate" all labels.
