NVIDIA OpenGL Driver requires CPUs with SSE to run
This post is a continuation of:
http://regnumonline.com.ar/forum/showthread.php?t=53382 To "fix" or workaround the issue mentioned in my previous post, I decided to purchase a new video card. I found an nVidia GeForce 6200 for $30. I'm now running Ubuntu 9.10. When I try to play Regnum, I get the following: Code:
~/regnum$ ./rolauncher NVIDIA OpenGL Driver requires CPUs with SSE to run. The current CPU does not support SSE. uname -a: Code:
Linux 2.6.31-16-generic #53-Ubuntu SMP Tue Dec 8 04:01:29 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux Code:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV44A [GeForce 6200] (rev a1) |

As much as I hate to say it, you have a very old machine by modern standards. Your machine is simply not up to the task of running this game.
The minimum standards are a 2Ghz processor, pref dual core or 64 bit, 1Gb RAM, and an nvidia 6200 is about the bottom rung for a graphics card. This knocks out almost the entire AMD family prior to the 64 bit 3000+. Intel GPU's are out for the moment, and ATI cards struggle on linux. The games current engine is of a very high standard, and requires a "gaming rig" to be played with some efficiency. To put it in simpler terms, the machine has to be less than 5 years old to play this game, and to play ideally, less than 2 years old.

Yes, thanks for the follow up. I'm disappointed, because I did have this game running on that machine at one point. I couldn't get the BIOS flashed for the life of me.
I have another machine I inherited from a friend, not working. It turned out to just need a new power supply. After giving it all my "newest" hardware (obviously not new), I installed Ubuntu 9.10, enabled the restricted drivers (185 I believe), downloaded regnum, reboot, installed regnum, patched it and I got the the player select screen. Very nice! The machine is running a P4 2.6, not sure how much RAM, but enough to play! This is the first time I've had outdated hardware for a game, but I did push it. I'm surprised my old character hasn't been deleted I'm playing as a woodelf conjurer named Comfrey on the spanish server. I'm only lvl 12 right now. |
