Performance problems with new nvidia drivers
Hi,
I have a weird problem with ROs performance: Since the 195.XX nvidia driver is out fps have dropped by roughly 60% for me, using a 7900gts card. With the 175.XX driver the performance is a lot better. This week a friend gave me his "old" 8800 gt. I experience the same behaviour as with the 7900gts. However the 175.XX driver doesnt work properly with this card, causing wine games to crash or not-start at all. Performance in other applications is usually in favour of the newer drivers or both are equal - but i only tried with glxgears and nexuiz. As of now I am not convinced but somewhat suspecting that this is rather a problem of RO than of the drivers, but I dont really know how to trace it back properly. Advice and suggestions are very welcome. Z. ps: 32bit Arch linux 2.6.33 kernel, Athlon X2 4200+, 7900gts or 8800gt [always only one card plugged in]

I'm using 190.53 instead of 195.x, i was encountering similar performance issues with latest ones.
With 190.x performance is much better.

I tested the newest nvidia driver (257.35) and there is no performance improvement. (in consideration with 195.XX)
The linux client is still broken. UPDATE: It runs at 10-20 FPS with Shader 3.0 at Geforce 7900GS. PS: And the driver 257.21 at WinXP slows the game down, too. I've re-installed the 197.XX driver to get more performance.

Same for me too . Im using 173xx for my nvidia 6200TC and get best performance with that driver. Tested 195xx series and yesterday 256.35 same bad performance and playing in wars is just impossible.

is realy the Linux Client broken or is it OpenGL ? I tried running regnum with OpenGL . OS Windows 7, ATI 4650 I got about 20 FPS. Same settings but with directx --> ~60-80 fps I guess OpenGl "version" of Regnum is broken. And if OpenGL Part of Regnum is broken... the drivers are probably fine. |
