Thumbs up Volunteers: Testing Regnum Download Manager BETA

Hi Community,

For those that may be interested, I'm working on a download manager for the Regnum Installer. We bought one some time ago and we had to remove it as it brought more problems than solutions.

Because of that, in my free time when possible, I started developing one in C# .NET given the fast coding possibilities of this language.

Those who want to test it are welcome to do so and I'd like you to post here this info:

Operating System:
Observations:

TO ACKNOWLEDGE:

- This is a BETA version and a very experimental one for now. Some basic functionality is still missing. The important thing is that the file downloads correctly even after pausing or resuming several times.
- Being developed in .NET it will only work if you have this framework installed (2.0 or superior). If you have Windows Vista or 7 you should not have problems running the app.

Regnum Download Manager BETA

Thank you!

Running under Wine (and installed .net 2.0). Works ok. It starts/pause as expected. I didnt finish whole download yet, it ll require some time. I will add here if it got corrupted.
Kubuntu 10.04, Wine version: wine-1.1.42.

One small thing: in down left, where it says "Downloading", when you press Pause button, maybe it would be nice to change text to "Download paused", instead leaving it "Downloading". Also, is there a Browse button to where I d like to save the game? Because I dont see one, it just has its default path and on starting program, it automatically starts downloading there.

Basic function works so far. Few ideas are maybe to add Regnum News to display there too, so you can read them up while downloading (on the upper part between thank you message and "ngd studios"). Also, when you stop, I think "Really stop?" pop up message is not needed, show directly "Do you want to continue later?" one, and add there "Cancel" button as third button, which would return user to downloading (if user pressed "stop" by accident).

I can also start multiple times program from same user, which should be blocked (like Regnum "does"). When two of them are up, second throws Exception error (error pic below).

Any other functions you planned to build to this? We could just throw few ideas about those before implementation.

Edit: forgot to say, Pause/Resume/Stop in system tray works good and I love that minimize throws it there and not leave on task bar.

For me it crashed too on Windows XP SP3 (x64) with Net 3.5 SP1,
getting v.4 now and trying again.
Edit: Same with v.4, i get Windows general error message.. That there has been an error and the program has to be closed..

The checksum function is not implemented yet, maybe some corrupted bytes, we'll see in a next version.

It's known that on 64 bit OS it has some more problems. I'll look into that.

Thank you all for testing! When I have a little more time I'll fix this bugs

For some reason downloading the normal way from the web page didn't work, so gave this a try. (Windows 7 says the installer is corrupt so it won't run.) This beta downloader on the other hand refused to start at all.

OS: Windows 7 64-bit home premium

Edit: Got the game running by loading it with gamigo's down-loader.
