Taunt on Hunter's Pet

I'm leveling up a knight, but the scuttlebut is that Taunt does not work on Hunter Pets. I'm told at one time that it did.

Is this true? And if so, is this a bug or nerf?

It lowers their protection and makes them easier to kill. It does not remove control of the pet.

I guess at one time it did remove control of the pet from the Hunter?

It was unfair because the pet would run off and die somewhere for only 50 mana, so it was removed.
