Protection

i just remeber i wanted to find this out for ages:
What does the modifier "protection" excactly do?

For example i have a skill that adds protection 60%

I didnt notice any obvious effect. But that shouldnt mean much

We tested this one at the arena (Heroic presence) and after some hits we haven't seen any effect. Could be, that this one works only on allys, but thats not sure, so i reskilled.

Edit: Oh, i think this skill normaly should raise the armorpoints - but as we didn't saw any effect, i'm not sure on this
