Default What do you record with?

Props to old friends with advices (Lupe + Hepha with BSR/Fraps), but is there any other good, and free screen recorders that work with great graphics and easy on the lag-in-game.

I use ffmpeg, its the smoothest and most reliable out of all of them. But you have to get dirty with the command line in order to use it (since it has no GUI that I know of), and on top of that, since it grabs an area of the screen you may need some knowledge in video editing to crop out the game area.

One of my old videos demonstrating the results in 720P HD, SM 4.0 and it causes minimal lag.

well i appreciate it man, but i don't really have a clue with computers beyond the basics. But do keep me posted on others if you do manage to have alternatives. Always good to hear from you!

Just go with Fraps.
It's fairly cheap and easy to use yet outputs professional level recordings.

Beware however that it will fill up your harddrive alarmingly fast when recording, depending on what settings you choose.

Hi! I watched a little of your video. The quality is great, but I was wondering why you cut tiny sections out? Like when a mage is casting something, you cut to where you were behind him? And lots of times mid-fight you cut out tiny parts where you could've sped up or left alone.

It is a little irritating to watch imho, but I just want to know why you do it?

Great quality though.

Thanks.

EDIT: I forgot to mention: I use Fraps for recording, it does fill up hard drive space, but you can render those clips into a video (montage or clip) and it compresses the file size dramatically for uploading. I edit with Windows movie maker usually, but have recently acquired Sony Vegas Pro 11, which is quite complicated to use, but has great results.

I actually didn't do any editing besides speeding it up a bit. The game just jumps around like that for alot of players, even on low pings and high FPS.

I use ffmpeg or glc.
Setting for ffmpeg I used earlier:
without audio:
Code:
ffmpeg -f x11grab -r 25 -s 1280x720 -i :0.0+328,190 -vcodec libx264 -vpre lossless_ultrafast -threads 4 Desktop/intro.mkv
with audio:
Code:
ffmpeg -f alsa -ac 2 -i pulse -f x11grab -r 25 -s 1280x720 -i :0.0+320,166 -acodec pcm_s16le -vcodec libx264 -vpre lossless_ultrafast -threads 0 Desktop/intro.mkv
to get window coordinates, type command xwininfo. Also since I play in window mode, I disable RO window frame to get pure in game content only.

GLC:
with audio:
Code:
./glc-capture ~/Games/RegnumOnline/rolauncher
without audio:
Code:
./glc-capture --disable-audio ~/Games/RegnumOnline/rolauncher
encode:
Code:
./glc-play game-8496-0.glc -o - -y 1 | mencoder -demuxer y4m - -nosound -ovc x264 -x264encopts qp=18:pass=1 -o video.mp4
Video editing in Kdenlive where I finalize quality and stuff.
