Knights (warriors), a few questions.
Hiya,
I have a reasonable amount of experience with this game, and some classes. But the knight class is still largely a mystery to me. So I have a few questions about knights (warriors). I just thought I'd wack them all in one thread :-). Part one, What works? Most of my questions stem from the fact that dizzy spells do not have an effect on a knocked down player. I know Shield Bash for instance does not work on a target while it is knocked down (unfortunately). This leads to confusion though; What about Disable Limb? Mind Squasher? Crushing? and other spells that not necessarily do damage but do have a cc effect? Do they all not work on knocked down players? Also, if you can think of any other spells that you sometime see casted but wont, for some reason, have an effect, please share :-) Part two, Hunters and their pets I'm currently grinding mostly near Trelle market/beach, because of the good type of mobs there and the proximity of the save obviously. However, not surprisingly, some high level hunters seem to deem that place good for proving their immense skill, considering the fierce resistance they get from the level 35-40 players that grind their </irony> I don't pretend to stand much of a chance against a level 50 hunter, but if it's 1 vs. 1 (or better 0.5 vs. 2) I try to at least kill/hurt the pet, or keep it off me as much as possible. Often times, the hunters buff their pets. Mostly with Bestial, sometimes also with that defense buff. I'm a fan of the blunt weapon tree, so my little knight instinct immediately makes me think "MS!". But what do I MS to remove pet buffs? The hunter or the pet? Part three, Taunt? I think (someone please confirm) the protection malus from Taunt works on mobs. I have never used it on a higher level than 1. For grinding it's just a tool to get a mob from in between a bunch of aggro mobs. It also seems to work on hunters' pets, or at least it is cast-able. I'm not sure if it really has any other effect though, since they pummel me to death to fast. Is it worth it? Part four, Armor Resistances seem to have an important effect on the damage mobs, and players?, can do to you. So currently I'm sticking with the lower level Full Plate armor, because it works better against the mobs I grind on than the higher level Sudang or Gladiator armors. From some topics in this forum it seems that Dueling armor seems to be the next best thing to go for. Lucky me, I already dropped a Dueling breastplate (no bonus) for level 40. I've been running around to all merchants and blacksmiths, but I can't seem to find one that sells level 40 Dueling armor (only 41 or higher). Did I miss something or is it not available? Also, for later, some people advise me to stick with Dueling armor even at lvl 50, except of course I find other with a good bonus. Other people say they prefer Dragon/Guardian armor. So ... which is it now? I guess it boils down to what matters more, armor points or resistances? Part five, Aura leeching Does this still work after the big aura nerf? Or is it just too much hassle nowadays to keep your grinding mates in range of your aura? I hardly see any aura's being used in grind parties. Compared to in the past where every grind party had at least one aura spammer. Not that I'm looking for the easy way out or something . Thanks in advance for any input :-). |

long time since I played my knight heavily, but Ill answer where I can.
P1 Dizzy dosnt work on knocked targets, MS will, Stuns wont, not sure about slow downs. - stat spells like crushing should work on knocked targets. P2 For hunters and pets you have a dilema, firstly if a level 50 hunter is attacking you (a knight) when your under level 40 you dont have much chance either way, but lets think in the higher levels. You could kill the pet (or at least try) but this can be a long job for a knight with low damage, so if you plan to kill the pet Ao1 is a must to survive the pounding you will take. Caution and armour points in general work very well vs low damage such as that of a hunters bow, so it will help greatly vs the hunters bow damage, but then if you kill the pet and if the hunter is dealing low damage he will probably just run away and come try kill you later. So its best to try call in some help for dealing with a hunter, they are just to slipery for one knight to deal with. P3 Taunt will help your damage vs mobs decently but is costly to use on every mob, it should also increase damage on pets but wont cause the hunter to lost control of the pet as it should, at least I havent noticed it doing so. P4 This page: http://www.claninquisition.org/index...on=calculators is good for calculating your 'true' armour points vs each type of damage, using this you could compare armour types with varied resistances and base armour to give you the best armour vs the type of damage you want to defend against. P5 Heroic presence will still work well on getting you XP in a group, the others Im not so sure because of their limited range/area.

Dizzy, immobilize and stun don't work on knocked targets, slowing spells like Disable Limb do. Also, Crushing and Mind Squasher work.
Since a knight can't run away from a hunter, I suggest you always fight back. Since the pet will do the biggest damage to you, you should kill it first. When you want to dispell pet-buffs, cast Mind Squasher at the pet. The +aggressive bonus works on mobs, but not on pets, since hunters can control them. However, it still is worth using, because the hunter will send his pet to you anyway and the protection malus the pet gets, is quite big and makes you able to kill it faster. About armour, Dueling is in shop only available from level 41. On my level 50 knight I have a combination of dueling, protector(available from level 45), nimcha(available from level 39) and guardian(available from level 47) armour. This is because guardian and dragon armour generally have bad resistance against piercing damage, which is one of the most common types in-game. Dragon armour has 200 AP, but because it is if I recall it correctly, very bad against piercing, you loose 30% of that and are left with 140 AP. Dueling has 168 AP and is very good against piercing, so you have 218 AP. You can see that when you are being hit by piercing damage, dueling has more armour points than dragon. Heroic Presence is the only aura left which still is range 10 and has effect 360 degrees around the knight. The other auras are range 6 and are only active behind the knight. So while Heroic Presence is still good to affect a lot of people, the other auras are not.

Pt (hihi) 1
From a knight's point of view, try not not cast SB, kick, feint, balestra and ribs on a knocked target. Those are commonly used, but after a while you will learn from experience. Unintentionally (or badly timed, like I often do) this can of course happen. Pt 2 Yes, most of the time it is wise to go for the pet first. (In some occasions it's not, but you'll soon figure out when and why). Also very important vs. troll-tards and/or grinder killers is to use your environment. Use trees, rocks etcetera to 'isolate' the pet from the hunter if you can. Some of those hunters might start to cry or blame you for not fighting fairly. But then again, they're killing grinders. 'Nuff said, right? You like Blunt? Great! MS the pet, MS the owner, just MS everything! Pt 3 Like has been said: Use it on pets, use it to lure a mob, don't use it on every mob. Pt 4 Inquisition's tool is quite nifty. Once you start collecting some higher level armor, you can play a bit with it to see where there are still gaps or weaknesses in your armor setup. Also consider the importance of each damage type in war. The 3 physical ones are obviously the main ones. So make sure you are as 'strong' as possible against those. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but afaik fire is the most used from the magical ones. Imho, IF you have to sacrifice on some resistances (you don't want to, but IF) do it on lightning or ice damage. Last but not least. A perfect setup resistance-wise is obviously utopian. Luckily, being a warrior, you can partially make up for a weaker physical resistance with the passives in the weapon trees (level 15). That all depends on your setup and which weapons you prefer though. There's also a 'resist magical' passive, but chances are you'll be too short of points to invest in that, and I'm not entirely sure it's worth it. Pt 5 It's so unbelievable hard to find a decent grinding group these days. Everyone is too goddamn greedy. So even if you would be able to use e.g shield wall to leech, I doubt you'll find enough people to point your ass at :/ How lovely it may be. Imho, stick with the wasps and beetles until level 39 or so. After that you can move to wolves and goblors (get some slashing resistant armor) near aggers market. Then back to trelle for the minks and sabers. And so on. PS: If you play on Horus, PM me. I have a pair of lvl 40 Dueling gaunts you can borrow/have.

I was just told that now dizzy etc does work when casted on knocked targets. Of course this does not mean that it is the most efficient to cast dizzy on a knocked target the moment he gets on his feet again.

Cannot attack does not work either. Knock downs normally just stack if they are the same spell. Id use shield bash together with immoblize.

Part 1 -
The following CC effects work on knocked targets: -Freeze. -Stun ? I haven't tested this yet. -All stat reducing debuffs. -Any effect that I don't mention in the section below: The following CC effects do not work on knocked targets: -Dizzy. -Immobilize. -Knockdowns of either the exact same spell but lower level, or of a different spell. -Cannot attack spells (of which there are only two). Part 2- Hunters are tricky to fight. Generally, you'll be able to see what buffs are being cast, the game isn't too fast paced for you to miss it all. If you wish to remove Bestial Wrath from a pet, MS the pet. Doing so, however, may cause you to miss a chance to take down the hunter by MSing his defensive buffs, so you'll have to consider what will be best for the situation you're in. If you are only trying to kill the pet, feel free to blow all your knockdown and CC spells on it. The only way a hunter can stop you is by using ambush and stunfist, so after the ambush is over, if you're still alive, you can try to fight back. If the hunter comes in close for stunfist you can try to CC him. Anyway, it's a difficult fight. Don't expect to even kill the pet at your level. Part 3- The protection malus from taunt is highly effective when used with a medium or fast weapon. If you keep it on lvl 1 it's only 50 mana and 40% debuff IIRC, so it can be quite efficient. In war, it's hard to say whether the spell is worth it. If you want to focus on killing a pet as fast as possible however, consider using it. Part 4- Resistances play an extremely important role in mitigating damage. Lvl 35 armour which is Very Good against a dmg type can be more effective against lvl 50 armour which is just Bad against that dmg type. Unless you find that elemental dmg is screwing you over, do not use the dragon armour. It has absolutely terrible physical resistances and you won't do well against archers or warriors with it, unless they have an insane amount of elemental dmg boosts. For armour, IMO priorities are pierce (archers and spears) > blunt (pets and hammers) > slash (swords). Dueling armour is good against blunt and v. good to pierce so it should be easy enough. As for your level 40 armour piece, sometimes mobs will just drop a piece of armour which is a little lower than what you can find storebought. Usually these are of a little worse quality than storebought or higher level versions of the item, but very rarely you can find a below average superior or even master quality weapon/armour piece. Part 5 - The limited range of most auras and the long cooldown of the other aura (heroic presence) makes them not a viable choice for grinding, especially considering the discipline points cost in getting shields and/or vanguard to 19. |

i mean, reading your quoted post i just understand that NOW they work? or is a misstype? @lien: Taunt always the pet that atk you, challenge the hunter too, if you stay near a tree's zone, move to a tree and try to keep the MGarrows firer out of your ass till you dispatch is pet (Ao1 can let you survive enough) call for help (till NGD don't remove the realm chat to horus is still possible to ask for help... :-D hope they will remove soon) p.s.:Hunters for now are OP, so be calm when fighting them..if they cast ambush+confuse on you probably you are going to save fast if you dispatch his pet and find a tree asking for help probably they'll run away and will come back in future (2-3 min usually) again with pet.. try keeping your passive vs piercing higher than possible, keep you deflectin projectile always active when grinding.. and try to find mob with piercing atk

As far as I know, dizzy and immobilize effects didn't work when casted on knocked targets. However, after posting that I was told by other people, that now when you get a dizzy spell casted on you when you are knocked, you are dizzy when you get up. However, I have no experience with that since I always time my dizzy spells after the knock down.
