How's the Knight?
I'm downloading now and thinking of becoming a Knight. But I'm worried that like in most MMOs these days the tank class will suck in PvP.
Are Knights actually able to tank well in PvP? And is the PvE experience with them any good? |

B) Knight is one of the most difficult classes to grind, because if you don't have a good weap. your dps sucks badly, and you will have to rest for a long time.

I am a max level knight in this game and I can say I love it. The basic defence between knight and barb isn't that great but if you use a spell which lasts 50 seconds called army of one your defence skyrockets until you run out of time or someone uses a spell called mindsquasher to remove it from you. You can skill your ability to resist knockdown skills to a max of 25% passive while using other spells (which aren't passive), which a barbarian has access to also to resist even more.
Though the knight has weak attack ability compared to barbarian I think if you can use enough crowd control skills well and take your time it is the funnest class^^ In the end you can create a character that is very hard to knock down and very hard to kill as opposed to other classes. Though if you are alone and swarmed every class will fall of course, except hunters which can run away with insane speeds And the knight has some auras that will be fixed soon by the developers that will enable to protect your team better. If you like being defensive and knocking your opponents and cc'ing them to win and defend your team with auras, pick knight. If you want to kill mages in 2 hits as a fully buffed barb, and use areas that, combined with other barbs can whipe out armies if chained, pick barbarian You can also skill as an offensive knight with areas but you won't do nearly as much damage as a fully buffed barb. Also, the grind to lv 50 is a bit of a pain, but if you find a nice group to lv up with it's not so bad. And I think, despite what most think^^, it is the funnest to play.

Thanks I think I'll go with a Knight. I love tanking and playing a character that can take lots of damage, but in a lot of games tanks are gimped. It sounds like it's better than normal in this game.

Indeed they are hard to kill when you skill for most defence. But again, tanking in damage purely alone without army of one is very hard because the damage received is almost comparable to what a barb would receive as well. Knocking a buffed knight and if he/she has support is very hard though and in many cases you can tank very well. I hope you enjoy it. If you have army of one on lv 5 you can dance in front of a small army while they shoot at you and nothing will happen, also melee attacks bounce off as well, so most of the time you survive for the 50 second duration ^^, just make sure you have an army behind you to back it up or else you become a long drawed out punching bag of a kill for the enemy lol.

Keep in mind that pvp is not a major part of the game (and neither is pve... not yet maybe). Most of the times you'll fight in groups, even when hunting and especially if you are a warrior class.
What matters is if you can help your group. Most of the core gameplay is doing that while two (and sometimes three) armies of 20-30+ players battle each other over a fort, a castle, a bridge or a relam gate (in wich case we'd be talking 200-300+ players total -oh the mayhem-) in a constant exchange between attack and defense situations. |

Knights aren't a tanking class. Having a "PvP tank" never works in other games, and it won't work in this game.
What the knight class offers - or is supposed to offer - is increased survivability, more utility and more CC options, with the benefit of being able to improve the defense of allies. Knights are more of a finesse class, while barbs focus on putting out all the pressure and doing the dmg. There's no complete offensive/defensive specialisation in this game because in PvP, it's useless. A bit of survivability is nice, sure, but it doesn't work if you can't do anything with it. So knights are a little sub-optimal still, with shield bash the way it is and the vulnerability to kiting, but they're not completely useless. A knight's survivability, IMO, is there so they can stand toe-to-toe with barbs and to help them apply some more CCs without dying so fast. Just don't expect you'll be able to take all the dmg from your allies in the sense of traditional PvE tanking though. |
