Actually I'd probably do the same if i was in the US forces atm. But then I would of known better not to join in the 1st place. Having a ability to think for yourself and research as much as you can before taking a major step in risk and responsibility when joining the military is something of a no brainer. Doing this 1st not after would of saved you loads of hassle. Its nothing new and well documented.

This is true. However, I was a young impressionable 17 year old with no idea how the real world worked. C'est la vie, non?

Personally ignorance as an excuse never worked for me. But on the legal side I could see that defence working in some court of law. "I was to stupid to think at 17 now I'm 23 and now I know. I wasn't responsible for my actions at 17 bla bla bla." Could work with a glass of water to swallow what ever pride and self respect you have remaining.

Haha, I have lots of pride and self-respect. In fact I think I'm one of the baddest motherfuckers walkin'. I have faith in my moral code and that I've done the best that I can to follow internationally accepted rules for how a human being/soldier should conduct themselves.

Well in my honest opinion what you do if acknowledged would set a precedence and destroy the very concept of the chain of command and the whole point of the military. Having soldiers questioning every single order would lead to a breakdown in national hell international security. Don't tell me the losers would not crawl out of the woodwork cause they would.

Not so. Modern western militaries are already signatories to these rules. The Geneva Conventions, the UN Charter, the Nuremberg Principles. It's just high time they started yielding to them. Also it wouldn't lead to the breakdown of the chain of command if the orders were well documented and transparent, as they should be. i.e. no lying about facts to coerce soldiers into performing. (WMDs come to mind.)
