I've been scrolling through the steam forum and i still have to find a possitive thread about tis gam, mostly it's steam players saying it sucks and RO players defending it

Well that was to be expected. The game is far to be "noob-friendly".
There's also a lot of trolls and people that only care about the current mainstream dumbed down games. Best example is a comment about how the game sucks because you have to select manually with your mouse....
However it's true the game could be a lot more polished. Some stupids things like non-bindeable keys or the log/chat size that is never saved are enough to drive a lot of people away. Not speaking of the awful performance for Mac/Linux users, that might be the most interested in the game since there's not as good native equivalents MMO on these platforms.

Anyways I have spent a good part of the day in the initiation zone watching and trying to help the newbies there. It's very cool and surprising to see 20-25+ people betwenn the Initiation Zone and the first village, however it seems very few make it past the island. I have only seen a couple ones reaching Fisgael, and the second village is nearly empty too. I hope it's just a matter of days for Fisgael to fill up a bit, but I still think there's an early player retention issue.

I wouldn't say that the game sucks because of that, but I can point out at this as a vital deficiency. Having good ergonomic control over your character boosts usability and user experience. Making such simple tasks complicated doesn't helps at all.

I'm not against improving targeting/selection, RO needs some love in these aspects I believe it too.
However, and maybe I'm too nostalgic, to complain about having to select targets manually is gross, as if it was an insurmountable task that has no place in a game at all, as if such feature was totally vital or the game would be unplayable...
Seriously some people are really too used to the modern mainstream 'fastfood' games that constantly take your hand everytime. What's next, want the game to cast the right spells for you automatically too or regain hp almost instantly by breathing a few seconds (oh wait this already exists !) ?
Okay this feature would be cool (even if it means that autotargeting and selfgrinding bots would be super easy to do with this) but its absence is nothing gamebreaking.

I returned to the game to check out the update for a little while today and spent some time at initiation zone healing many players that I saw there. However I could tell that most of them seemed utterly bored out of their mind even while doing the first few quests. They didn't ask for parties, they didn't talk in general or on realm chat, its like they were all half asleep from how mind-numbingly boring the game is. And even after a three month break, i am still inclined to agree.

Its just not exciting.

One of the biggest problem I see, is the absence of guide in the actual game. Yes, there are few tips, that get usually ignored, but setting few quests, such as "equip another weapon", "bind to that altar" or "skill up at trainer", accompanied by a video/animation, could really help in some cases.

Seems it's time for a quest overhaul.

I must congratulate all the players I've seen today helping new users from Steam. Specially Alsius, which was far ahead in numbers of volunteers. It's very grateful to see something like this, because we didn't ask for it. You did it alone. I understand how it feels. Before working here, a loooong time ago, I did the same thing. It's just something you do.

Love you guys! Keep up the good work!
