Awesome South American pilot - TACA Flight 110 zero engine power
I just read about TACA Flight 110 out of Buenos Aires in 1988 which had a double engine flameout and zero engine power at about 15,000 feet in the middle of a hugely violent thunderstorm. Somehow they managed to land with zero power, almost in the river - a bit like Captain Scully but huge thunderstorms.
Here is the wiki article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TACA_Flight_110 here is the Mayday episode "Nowehre to Land" http://youtu.be/jnX1u5vp1J4 Amazing effort by the Sth American Captain. Clearly calm and immensely capable pilot. So... South America does have lots of talent ! amazing facts :- captain had only one eye after landing on a grassy verge in the middle of a swamp, they actually somehow flew the plane back out ... |
