2006 Beta players - what should he know?

What should a returning player know if the last time he played was when they released the Horus server?
I am looking to start again on a populated server with mostly english speakers if possible and .... I have no idea what class I should play. I want a class that excels at pvp, however it is easy to grind with it and the movement speed is not the lowest also. What would be my best guess and what info/wiki I should read to find out about the biggest updates that happened after I left?

Hi, welcome back.

Although I am not exactly a beta player, I'm around for long enough to tell you, that RO is a new game entirely. Lot has changed. Community is larger, lot of spells and graphics have changed, invasions have been redesigned, Regnum was launched on Steam, dragons were revamped, Horus merged with another server, now known as Raven.
Raven is a english speaking server, although I'm not sure about the population. In European morning/day times it's quite quiet. Classes are another topic. If you want a class for pvp, I'd probably recommend a marksman. They were boosted a while ago, and gained a superior range, while maintaining decent defense and even movement speed. They are considered an OP class atm. Barbarians are fairly powerfull too, but their great weakness is their meele range.
Instead of reading wiki/catching up on changes, I'd recommend you to just treat the game as entirely new to you . Get ingame and ask around for a nice clan. The wiki (regnum.wikia.com) is probably fairly obsolete, but good for basic info.

I joined when horus server was almost at an end so.. Ill just try telling you what changed since Ive been playing

The server
It merged again, Horus and Raven, you could possibly see a GM or GC from gamesamba online
although I wouldnt count on it, only gruffy is 'around' still gamesamba has a say in things happening on the server Haven
which brings the following problem, there is currently a relic lock (meaning no invasions)
during EU time, you can fight over invasions in the evening.. anyways more on that further on

Warmasters
The Warmaster tree has been revamped, spells are changed to be less OP or removed
every subclass has speciall WMspells now, some more handy than others..some more bugged than others
but so far it works

'Champions of Regnum'
the expension after warmasters, this includes a whole new invasion mechanic and instances
the pvp instances are currently down, supposedly if you win a season you get a statue in an instanced hall of fame
as for the new invasions, every castle/fort has a relic, you need 3 relics of enemy realm in your castle
to summon your dragon to the enemy gate to invade, gate's are capturable and
if you want to pick up a gem the gate has to belong to your realm.
Also you need your 3 relics and atleast 1 gem to do the dragonraid
the instanced dragonboss

There have been a few changes to spells, confuse is an hunter spell, Arcane devotion (mage 100% cs) is now instant
and there has been a tweek to mobs resisting (which should now happen less if the mob is normal or lower)
and phantom swings got fixed (dont ask me how, I dont really understand that part )

This is about all I can come up with atm Im sure I missed some stuff

As for the class.. warlock is deadly in pvp, but no mov speed bonus unless you get it on *rare* gear
it does have slows and stuff, I dont like the grind tho.. but thats me
Barbarian is defenitly the strongest class in the game, highest DPS you can get
and if you make friends with a conju to support you, you will be deadly in the wars
Marksman is good damage, defence and range, it requires a lot.. a LOT of running and keeping distance tho
and Hunter.. you really need good gear, but it has burst damage.. you can pick fights with camo and tracks
and the pets are just amazing

anyway thats the classes for pvp that arnt that slow.. Hunter has passive movement speed
and is the fastest class.. in theory, RO has this speciall something of being unexpected

Thank you for the detailed posts guys. I was also thinking about buying the LvL60 package to enjoy some quick pvp, but I might as well start from scratch to experience every change.

i'll make things simple for you mate, you want to be a part of the fight from what i understood so you want an offensive class: warlock, barbarian and marksman are the classes you want, warlocks got range and area spells, barbarians massive melee dmg, and marks can pewpew from far away

which realm are you on now? you gotta have a lvl 60 char before being able to buy 60 scroll

My main char is on Ra, on Horus I only have a LvL12 mage.
I always played on syrtis so yeah...

Oh I got the part with the lvl 60 scroll. Maybe I will stick with the lvl 30 one than? One question about this scrolls. Do you have to make any of the quests prior to lvl30-60 or they will be done automatically?

no you gotta do the missions yourself :3 you can skip the noob island missions if you wish, but one of them gives a mount for a week i think

and havent seen GoP members in years

Welcome back.

I don't think you want to grind. You probably won't get the same excitement reaching the lvl cap as the first time because you can already know what to expect from war.

The quicker you get into war the quicker you turn into one of us(again) addicted players who complain all day about the game and still stick around to play it.

The game is very pay to win heavy at the moment, although you can still manage, this game has turned into a luck based game and having good gear can help sometimes.

Players still make this game, as it always have. Ra is a bit laggy it seems with all the players now atm. Haven has it's up and down's when it comes to war activity.

FYI, the game is a lot faster compared to your time of leave.
