Because everytime I log in the game starts to eat all the CPU processing power like being trapped on an endless loop and then I have to reboot.

I've tried with the RSEIUB sequence without success, I have to reset it using the I/O button.

It seems to be related to some nvidia issue that I can't solve at the moment

aww... are your drivers up to date? Maybe just a new graphic card and some memory would be enough?

ATM, my ISP is giving me a headache with my broadband internet connection. It is way too slow, so installing new drivers is a nightmare. Anyway, the apt-get system is telling me that I have the drivers up to date.

Getting a new card is also difficult because of something we call "bottle-neck syndrome". This computer has more than 2 years with the same hardware, without changing a single piece, and it was designed to be a normal machine, aimed to programming and being a server more than a gaming computer. Originally it had RedHat linux installed, and later I made it a dual boot system with Debian.

The point is that this should be a server... And now it's too old to update. A 2.4ghz CPU with a 7800gt would be kind of a ridiculous setup :S

D I think it has 5 year old hardware, and I can only dream about playing games such as Witcher

btw i've lagged playing such trivial game like HL Portal... :P

still, playing on a pc that was supposed to be a server isn't a good idea. Maybe you should get out few things and replace them with older stuff, so you can have another pc in a cheap way... just the thought.

No, what I should do is get a new brand computer prepared to play this game, one that I could easily replace in two or three years and leave this computer as a server / programming / test bed machine... But I don't have any funds ATM. :S

I want to get rid of cables too, so a laptop would be a nice idea since I don't have too much time to play (using a laptop all day long isn't a good idea).
