Ok this is the mage´s subclasses 101, short and simple:

You can become either conjurer or a warlock.

You wanna be a warlock if you like:
- War
- Kamikaze tactics (yup, locks lack efective defenses)
- Crowd control spells
- Life/mana stealing (conjurers can also steal mana, but warlocks have 2 mana stealing spells)
- De-buffs: stuff that lowers other people stats, making them weaker.
- Stealing conjurer´s summons
- Frustration (locks are tough to handle and, currently, they get spells resisted a lot. You will probably see that corrected by the time you reach a high enough level)

You wanna be a conjurer if you like:
- Healing
- Buffing up your allies (barbs will love you)
- Protection auras (most of them are common to all mages but warlocks are not likely to invest points there)
- Summons (like pets but ranged. Work like a charm in 1 vs 1 but pretty much suck at wars)
- Sorcery: no damage dealing spells here, but you get lots of defensive potential, plus one really nasty crowd control spell called tremor.
- And that´s about it

Now this is the important part: when you get to lvl 17, digg mana control and get energy borrow (the 5th skill), then at lvl 21 get ambitious sacrifice (the 6th) You are not a real mage until you get either of these.

And one more thing: type -reset_powers in the chat to change your skill setup. You will have to go to the trainer after that to put the points back in the skill you want
