Its pretty much balanced in most cases,

Faster weapons deal less damage but hit more frequently,
And Slow weapons deal more damage but at a slower rate.

With a fast weapon you will be able to cast skill after skill better, this is ideal for mages for example (though dosen't matter much if you have Arcane Acceleration)

Slow weapons are best with warriors in my opinion, and long bows for marksman and hunters who want to decimate heavy damage.

What is your class?

well then you must have a 1handed weapon weather it is medium or slow, i dont think its a big difference, just find a weapon and speed wich you feel comfortable

Then my crappy recomendation is to level up with spears and step back techniques, a tip: look for spears with split damage, and split damage is even better when you have a damage bonus, with this you will have nice normal hits saving you mana too.

If you are going to fight most high levels really use blunt or spears, or for slashing usually a very slow weapon like the abyssal's. Some use dual branches (meaning 2 weapons at once) Mind Squasher in blunt is really recommended, and spears have range and nice areas.

You can go with medium weapons, but most people use slow weapons

I usually use fast for grind (often save me from death) and medium in war. By the way I am using slashing weapons.

Slower for powers to make the most of the wepdmg% spells, faster for normals or if your low on mana,

To work out DPS each wep speed has 25% speed difference between them so for more DPS with a slow than med wep you are looking for the slow to have about 25% more atk power.

But ofc powers throw out DPS so I go with slow more often than not on my knight.
