Default Knights: to be support or pvp setup

sup people,

so lately ive realized how often times knights get bashed by certain people if they arnt a support knight. im not mad about this, just curious if everyone feels that knights shouldnt be in pvp setup/selfsetup (whatever you want to call it). cause honestly, i use to only be support knight, but i never felt like i had an affect on the battle. so eventually i found out a pretty good knight pvp setup (not saying knarb cause my damage still stinks). and so now the only support moves i carry around are SW and PA. so i would like to ask you guys if its really that bad for me to be in pvp setup all the time, support is just no fun

so, please let me know what you guys prefer.
regards!

My motto is: If you want melee damage, play a Barbarian, otherwise play a supportive Knight.

This.

Knight is so much more useful as a supportive class than offensive in RvR. Auras make a huge difference, and even the under used stars shield is useful vs. lock areas and casting on players spammed with lightning and ice blast.

Knight DPS is far too low to be useful in RvR, which goes back to what matt said.

i don't like both: full support without offensive powers and a bit of damage is really boring, full knarb isn't half effective as a good barbarian (in a RvR pov).

i usually play with shield wall and deflecting barrier on level 5, heroic presence 1 and no star shield/protect ally.

knights have 2 main tasks: protect their allies and tanking by attracting enemies' attacks. while you can protect your teammates spamming your areas/aureas, you can't force the enemy army to attack you if you stand still in the middle of your army. you have to go in the middle of the enemie's line-up and you must deal enough damages or CC to force them to attack/block you in some way while your teammates kill everyone (possibly before they kill you ) so i think you need a mixed setup to be really effective.

i feel more comfortable in a full support setup with my conju, and it's way funnier

@ latan- I feel the same. And super true about how to force people to target you, it's no good if you're just spamming auras on your side, you gotta go inside the enemy force.

I don't believe in just a support knight or knarb anymore after the lv 60 cap. Used to be one or the other with the skill points available, now you can literally have every aura as a knight and have a bunch of attack and cc spells at lv 4. I have db5 sw5 and pa5, and still have 3 passive resists to blunt, slash, and arcane constitution on lv 4 and still manage to have sc4 and cc's.
Mixing the best of two worlds is the best imo. Can finish off a hurt conj with a nice sc4 and still manage to cast sw5 and db5 or something on your allies.

My thoughts exactly when I hit level 60.

My setup isn't quite knarb, nor is it completely supportive.

Deflecting Barrier 5, Heroic Presence 5, Shield Wall 5, Protect Ally 5 - alongside Feint & Kick 4, Ribs Breaker 1 and Mind Squash 5 (Like a boss) with both Offensive and Defensive Stance on 5.

I think knights should play as they want.. but I would really love it if they took PA5..
Its very hard to heal when your confused.. and since not everyone can live with no heals (suicidal barbs =p)
and there isnt always another mage near, PA5 is very much appreciated

{I meet lots of knights that dont take it.. and I hate conf..}

Obviously I am biased towards the support side of things. I am not really a supporter of the 20 + power points that allow all purpose builds either. It is really overkill that you can have almost full defense, hefty offense and support along with debuff , control sets.
Even at level 50 power points you could come up with a fairly balanced build that encompasses a bit of damage with support set.

With that said, each player should feel the freedom to build any which way they like despite discouragement from peers.
A build should focus on your strengths and what entertains you most. You tune the build according to your weapon, your armour, the way your usual allies play, the type of battles you engage in whether open field or fort wars and finally your mindset. No build is wrong once you can make it work to your advantage.

My personal set is based on an area defense spell, and 1 area defense aura. The specific spells change depending on my mood but the formula is the same. I carry about a hit chance debuff, a couple of dizzies, the Mind squash sometimes and disabling. Aside from that I do carry an immobilize or a speed reduction spell. I use protect ally as a stock spell and I carry an array of self defense spells but none on level 5 (some think I am crazy for carrying some self def spells at level 3, especially considering my HP is lower than some barbs out there). I do have at least one attack spell on one tree and a magnification to aid damage. I do carry throat cutter on high level as a finisher.

If you feel playing support is boring then stay at knarb setup, games are
supposed to be fun and if you arent having fun there is no point of playing.
