Default Desertification info.

So it may seem strange I'm posting this here but I've seen a lot of different people with different interests and jobs so it can't hurt since this is the inn.

I'm having a school report on desertification and I can't seem to find any projects planned or actually on the go to stop desertification. I'm wondering if someone could help me with this and link me some stuff? I have literally googled for hours but the only thing I could find was: The Big Green Wall which is the project that's going to stop desertification in the Sahel regio in Mid Africa.

Also, if desertification has positive effects. Guess not but every little info helps so if anyone coincidentally knows more about this please let me know!

Found another project similarly named "green belt" in Iraq, though it doesn't go into great detail. http://www.timeslive.co.za/scitech/article5326756.ece

And here is the site for UNCCD, the only international and legally binding framework whose purpose is to fight desertification: http://www.unccd.int/en/Pages/default.aspx

This is a summary of UNCCD's most recent conference (~2 months ago). It's very long so I only skimmed it, not sure if it has what you need: http://www.iisd.ca/vol04/enb04242e.html

Hope this helps.

ok if you combine desertification with Spain or Brazil, you will surely find some relevant documents.

forests hinders desertification. Not only because the roots of the trees stop soil erosion, but also because water evaporates on the leafs of trees much better than anywhere else. So with forests there is higher humidity in the atmosphere.

agriculture and monocultures can lead to more desertification.

I can recommend watching this video as well: HOME

A part of it is also about deforestation, lack of water, desertification etc. It is very worth watching for anyone IMHO, very well done documentary.

Thanks for the links, I will definitely watch the documentary, I remember seeing one of it's trailers and wanted to see it back when it came out so great timing. I actually already have written down the things you mentioned in my essay but still thank you too!
