Sorry Val, thats not an constructive post of me, but i get fed up with ridiculas(?) suggestions like that lately. Its a Game ... its fiction ... all this arguing from realworldterms is just °!"§%$!"%$. Every realm got some advantages .. target the dwarf earlier, hope for better targetting later in development ... not allowing dwarfen archers to use longbows will make balancing (from overall Hunter-Marks-Conju-Warlock-Knigh-Barb) even more difficult as you have to balance all (9?) races as well.

And no... my archer isnt dwarfish at all.

Well since you decided to flame me, let's look at the issue at hand.

Simply put, having a character that is 1/2 the height of everyone else with no inherent penalties IS AN ADVANTAGE, there is simply no way to dispute it.

The first obvious edge is that it's much easier for them to hide.

Secondly, have you ever tried to target a dwarf in a big melee scrum? (especially inside a fort). It is far more difficult to A) see them, and B) actually select them than it is to see and select 'growed up people'. That's a simple fact.

And i'm sorry, but i like realism in my games. Just because it's a 'fantasy game' doesn't mean that 'reality' need be suspended. IMO the very best games are the ones that are highly realistic even though they may be 'fantasy' based. A longbow is typically 4 1/2 or more feet tall. It is simply ridiculous to expect that they could ever effectively wield a weapon that is significantly taller than them. In reality, besides the obvious height problems a LB wielding dwarf would face, a dwarf's arm would not even be long enough to draw back a longbow fully, but i digress.

Dwarves right now have a very real and distinct advantadge over all other races, and it should be balanced, it's as simple as that. If regnum ever hopes to be truly balanced, this is a situation that must be addressed.

Really in virtually any fantasy genre, dwarves don't generally use bows, and certainly not longbows. If they use any ranged weapon, it'll pretty much be a crossbow or shortbow. And generally, dwarves are not mages in any given fantasy realm either.

Dwarves should be restricted to the fighter classes.

It is balanced. Elves get less constitution (and i think strength) than other races do. Dwarves, for their reduced height, should run slower, and not be able to use longbows. You want to be able to hide behind a blade of grass? Fine...no longbows for you shorty!

EDIT TO ADD: Perhaps dwarven archers should only be able to use crossbows.

You may not be aware of this, but dwarf archers cannot shoot over the higher bits of the fort wall.

The slight advantage you talk about is balanced out by this.

And thankfully, i doubt NGD will take your advice and disallow long bows for dwarves.

I mean, come on, you talk about realism, but virtually nothing about the Regnum world is based on realism - that's because it's fantasy.

And another major disadvantage with dwarves is that they suck at climbing.

The taller classes get to climb atop those rocks and admire the view.

My dwarf can't even climb that damn log outside Aggersborg fort.

So unfair...

PS: The thread is not hijacked. All it takes to put any thread back "on message" is to post about the original point. As a long time moderator myself, i've never bought into the 'thread is hijacked' whining.

Mak: My post was serious. BTW, tall people cant shoot over all parts of the walls either. I surely do hope regnum takes all suggestions seriously and at least considers them.
