Monitor goes "out of range"
Sometimes when I press the play button after logging in the computer stalls then my right monitor (lcd) goes black then says out of range. I run ubuntu 7.04, anyone got any idea why?

lcd monitors have a native mode, regnum switches to a terminal window before it proceeds with loading the game, this screen is in a mode your lcd can't view

no, I think it might be my graphics card not being powerfull enough I looked online and some site said that one screen can turn black if there isnt enough video memory, its a problem with the nvidia driver I think

You could try setting the modelines in the xorg.conf... forcing the issue that way can regularly help with out of range problems.
failing that, try to run in a window and see if that helps ? |

nvidia geforce 5600, I do run it windowed, the problem seems to happen with heavy cpu apps like running flash with wine and regnum. I should be getting a new graphics card fairly soon, so I could find out then. I looked up the modelines thing and am quite confused what does it do?

the modelines section forces Xorg to use specific refresh-rates for given resolutions rather than trying to detect them.
The easiest solution might be to check you're using the latest legacy drivers from nvidia - most distributions, ubuntu feisty included still use quite old driver releases by default (usually around 1-8... rather than 1-9...). Nvidia themselves have fixed/added/changed quite a lot since then there are plenty of instructions around the ubuntu about getting the latest and greatest installed in that reguard & i've usually found it fairly painless. failing that - even a GeForce 7300GT playes this beautifully and they're a long way from expensive Another question - Are you using a widescreen monitor - that tends to cause problems for a passtime (I am - so the voice of experience here ) ? |
