This could also affect others on the same IP if behind a NAT though, and in case you have a dynamic IP it's useless anyway.

And... how would that work?
The client would check the active nic's MAC and send this to the server for verification?

That could be prevented in any of 3 ways:

1. Set up a proxy and modify the data sent to the server to fake your MAC.
2. Spoof your MAC, ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:00:AA:BB:CC:EE
3. Change NIC.

There is no safe way to ban anyone completely from using a service.

Absolutely second the IP banning, what is a punishment if it can be worked around. Its like teling your child to go to his room where he has his X-box 360 and his computer. Thanks for teling me to play my games more, ill go back outside when you think youve "pusnished" me enough.

I know that IP banning affects everyone in the household, that's why I mentioned it. When people do bad things there are always unintended consequences to innocent people. Maybe someone will think twice about cheating if they know that their two siblings are going to spend the next month beating the daylights out of them for getting them banned from the game.

It also can affect everyone who uses the same ISP, if they use dynamic IP - and NOT the cheater. He'll just retry until he gets a new address, and somebody else who connects through that ISP will end up with the 'tainted' IP address.

An easy way to get rid of this is just to severely reduce the mag weapons level and capability to make duping ridiculous. Those who have obtained mag weapons legally would get to keep them at the current state. New mag weapons would get a new item code that would put them at say a lvl 30 weapons with -30% capability and no socket. Making it an okay low level weapon for grind or war would make it less attractive and wouldn't cause all the hiccups we see currently.

Really why should the games features that have been teased, hinted and waited for - for so long, be routinely delayed by an auxiliary quest. I typically don't care for mass punishment of ppl who have traded mag regularly and honestly, but greed for some has been the biggest motivating factor because they can trade for better items than they have without doing anything but duping. Greed might not fit every dupe, but it is seemingly the main factor that drives the dupers to continue.
