They're just trying a perfectly legit tactic, mentioned in the official Invasions guide right here, and I quote:

There will be two options to take the gem back to our realm: Coming back across the realm gate or using the escape routes.

The escape routes are spots near the shores that will teleport us to the outer side of the great wall.

Just so you know

I've seen a lot of people in the in-game chats and IRC thinking this is glitching; It is not. That route needs to be defended just as well as the gate exit
