Default Game quits in Ubuntu 9.04

I've had Regnum working for some time in Ubuntu 8.X, but decided to upgrade to 9.04 today and have found that I can no longer play. At first it told me that my graphics card was too old after I entered my password and clicked OK. The driconf S3TC thing seemed to fix that, and I can now get to the server selection screen, but when I click "Enter this server" button, it verifies, then just quits where it used to load the game. I've read about this chroot thing, but don't really fancy doing that when I'm not sure if that will fix it. I'm using an ATI X1650 pro and the drivers that came with the upgrade. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Code:
lspci | egrep -i "vga|video"
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV535 [Radeon X1650 Series] (rev 9e)
Code:
glxinfo | grep rendering
direct rendering: Yes
