I have tested with unity 2D but most of the time i use the "fallback" session with "Ubuntu no effects". I suppose compiz is off.

glxinfo | grep OpenGL:

Code:
OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
OpenGL renderer string: GeForce 8600 GT/PCI/SSE2
OpenGL version string: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 280.13
OpenGL shading language version string: 3.30 NVIDIA via Cg compiler
OpenGL extensions:
direct rendering: Yes

Does someone know where the problem is ?
