Part III
The next few days of recovery with Denizen passed by quickly for Meryn. Rage was busy making arrangements for her re-entry into the war zone, running around Mednet City. He took great care in seeing that her armour was repaired properly by Isebih, one of his trusted weaponsmiths. Scarcely had 3 days gone by when he returned to Denizen and Meryn, “Are you ready to resume your training, young one? I Hate You is not a man of patience, and to be sure, Lantem has reached him with word of your intent. I will give you 2 more days. We shall go by night, so when the moon is high above Alexia’s Domains meet me at the Great Wall.” “I believe I can be ready by then, sir,” said Meryn in a calm serious manner. Unsure of her fate she requested only one thing, “May I journey to Nasraah Tej Village to visit my mother once more before we venture out?” Since she had left home to join the Ignis ranks she had not returned and was anxious to see her family again. Certainly it would be difficult, but she could make the journey, especially with spending the past few days resting. “Of course! I think that sounds like a great idea,” he said jovially, for he knew Meryn’s motivation was waning, and perhaps this would give her the last boost of confidence to continue on. It would remind her that this was always her dream. “But I think you will want to stop at Seferah’s and see Meatwad before heading out,” he added with a wink. A little unsure of what would be awaiting her at the farrier’s, for she never quite knew what Rage or Meatwad were up to, Meryn anxiously gathered her personal effects and dashed out the door into the dusty Mednet streets. The sun was already high in the sky, and she knew that did not give her much time to get to the Door Corridor (certainly she did not dare venture into Allahed’s Arteries alone after dark. She would be able to make it Nasraah Tej by late morning the next day. It only took her about fifteen minutes to make the walk across town to Seferah’s. There stood Meatwad waiting for her with a mischievous grin on his barbaric face. “Mer Bear!” he called. “I am tired of you always laggin’ behind, girl!” he laughed and gave her a little punch in the shoulder, perhaps a bit too hard for the young hunter to handle. Like most barbarians, he was sometimes unaware of his brute strength. Out came Seferah with a radiant, chestnut mare. Meryn could scarcely believe her eyes and stepped back from the magnificent creature. “I hope it will do. It’s nothing compared to my great Ignis steed, but I think it’s time you had a horse of your own.” Of course ecstatic with joy at this point, Meryn hugged Meatwad and skipped over to her new horse. She placed her hand on the gleaming back of the animal and felt its energy radiate through her. The other two helped her lead it out of town and watched as she mounted and rode off towards Altaruk City. With the speed of her new horse, Meryn figured she could make it to Essadi Village by night fall. She rode on through the desert, the mare’s hooves gliding across the overwhelming Ignis sand. How refreshing it was for her to feel the air swirl around her face and dance in her hair. And by the time she reached the Door Corridor, it scarcely felt like any time had passed. “What business have you here?!” shrieked Raki as he glared at her from within the shadows of the great door. “No strangers may pass through this gate!” “Please sir!” she pled. “Surely you must recognize me? It is I, Meryn of Nasraah Tej, daughter of Aixa, the humble tailor, and the great conjurer La Mer.” She removed her Beast Master helm and gave him an honest and somber look. “Could it really be ye?” he asked, squinting in the bright sun as he ventured down the steps of the corridor. “Certainly not! You were just a tiny young archer when you passed through these gates only a time ago. But, alas, yes! It is you! Well come child; enter the protected region behind this great door!” his tone had softened and he was even smiling genially. Meryn took a deep breath and closed her eyes as she waited for the pulse of energy which would transport her to the other side of the wall. By now, the amber sun began to set in the west and Meryn continued her journey on to Essadi Village. Winding through Allahed’s Arteries, it seemed like an eternity before she saw the glow of the village. She had not accounted for the sun being so low behind the great canyon walls and most of that part of her journey was dusky. And by now she was exhausted from the events of the day and traveling alone. It had been so long since she passed through here last, that she feared she would not recognize the place. Or maybe the amiable company she had expected to stay with had moved away or would not be open to hosting her for a night. She dismounted as she neared the town and walked into the light which radiated from the glowing street lights. The locals were finishing up another day of work and most were heading home to their families. Across the way she spotted Abira, her old friend, taking the day’s laundry from off the line. Abira must have seen her too for she called out to her: “Meryn! My dear friend! Come! We have been expecting you and surely you must stay with us this night.” The two friends embraced each other and Meryn helped Abira bring the family’s clean clothes into the house. Inside there was already a warm fire going and Aroth, Abira’s husband and guard in the village, sat in his chair drinking some ale and watching the flames flick and lap the brick fireplace. Their two young daughters were playing on the floor with their dolls. “Look who I found wandering about the streets!” clucked Abira playfully to her family. The girls ran to hug ‘Auntie’ Meryn, for it had been over a year since they had last seen her, and certainly the littlest one did not even remember her, but of course young children are always happy to see new faces. Meryn quickly found herself drifting off to sleep on spare cot in a quiet side room. And she slept so well that she did not even stir until the dawn poured in through the window by her face. She quickly gave her sentiments to her friends for their hospitality and loaded up her horse to continue on to Nasraah Tej. With great ease she reached the familiar town by midday. She saw the faces from her past and they seemed to look right past her, as if she were some grand statue or idol on its pedestal. Aware of the awkwardness, she dismounted and waded through the stares to her old cottage. Aixa, glancing up from her work, saw her daughter coming her way and ran to greet her. She squeezed her daughter tightly in a hug and Meryn reached down and kissed her mother on the cheek. Meryn was renewed to spend a few hours with her mother and catch up with her, and her dreams of defending the Ignean people were renewed. It was all that she could think of as she ended her visit and trekked back the way she came. By moonlight on the second day, Meryn and Rage met at the Great Wall to continue the rest of her training. “Meryn, I am needed at Menirah. Maddie will escort you to the swamp. Should you run into any trouble, though it is not highly likely, she will be able to get you to safety quickly. Now hurry up before I Hate You changes his mind. Oh, and Meryn, don’t disappoint me!”

my favorite chapter so far xD
Part IV
Maddie already on horseback looks angrily forward not even making eye contact with Meryn. Frustrated with their journey to the swamp. "Who is this noob?" she thinks "Why am I even bothering listening to Rage, he is so (expletive) annoying..". Maddie a great conjurer in her own right, greatly admired by the many ignean lives she has saved. Never leaves the front line following melee fighters straight into battle without a thought of tomorrow. Meryn has heard of her but never met her in person. "Hi I'm Meryn, a new hunter in Apocalypse." Meryn expects a smile back or some kind of positive response. "Lets just get going so I can get back." Maddie doesn't even look at her. Meryn looses her smile quickly as they gallop into the ignean desert. The moon high above casts shadows of clouds onto the desert sand. Orcs and coral snakes are not as active at night so easily avoided. Enemy activity remains low at night, but danger remains with enemy hunter scouts always lurking around for easy prey. Usually the presence of a decent support conjurer and hunter would intimidate them. But Meryn lacks decent training and Maddie is not trained in any real combat spells. Meryn wonders why Rage trusted her safety with Maddie as they cross the wooden bridge. Hyenas laugh nearby calling each other as they hunt and remind Meryn of the dangers that surround her. The frail bridge creaks and buckles under their weight. "Daen Rha, an ancient igneo champion lies underneath this ragged bridge." Maddie tells Meryn.."It is said he is 12 feet tall and possesses the gift of knight and lock spell mastery." Meryn's eyes widen, "He sounds terribly formidable!" Maddie laughs out loud, shocking Meryn "A perfect symbol of power and pride for Ignis! Once a horde of Syrtis came into the cavern below this bridge to kill it and claim its treasure. He killed the whole army by himself in 3 days of battle." "Well he sounds like an ally" Meryn says to Maddie. "No..I read once the problem is he remembers the old times when Ignis belonged to the igneos..we took their land from them. After much oppression..they regressed into their primal animal instincts and are a shadow of what was once a thriving formidable nation. Humans and newly allied ignean elves living on the outskirts in villages saw them as a threat. They joined their powers and took over the realm easily. The elves became "dark" as they continued living through the years in the intense desert sun. Daen Rha was pushed out of his land and pressed into this cavern during the epic war for ignis. An army of mages cast a spell imprisoning him here forever...magic long forgotten. His rage was calmed immediately by the temple spawned in his honor by Humans and Dark Elves in the cavern. He is caged, and will kill anyone that comes close..a primal instinct to see anything non-igneo as a threat. But he accepts his domain, nowhere else for him to go, even if he could get out." Maddie sadly looks ahead as they near the end of the bridge. Meryn is surprised at her small show of compassion. Meryn following behind suddenly feels alert, like danger is nearby. A chill runs down her spine. "Watch Out!! Something is coming!" Maddie turns around and shouts "Shut up I'm talking!! Who the (expletive) do you think you are? I'm the MAGE here with the magic skills!!..." she begins mimicking a goofy mage waving her hands around mocking Meryn like she was a child. Meryn watches her expression changes to a stare towards the area behind Meryn...her hands stop waving and she freezes with a look of terror as a sudden wind swirls around the area. Meryn's hair gets in her face but she gets a glance of glimmering pink in the moonlight and a fragrance of flowers in the air as someone walks slowly past her. A giant troll strikes Meryn's horse knocking it off the edge of the bridge. It falls deep into the dark cavern, Meryn luckily falls off the horse beforehand. She looks up from her back only to see the troll step over her towards Maddie. Maddie calls out "Barromhero!!! I'm gonna (expletive) you up!!" Meryn looks at Maddie casting loads of spells on him, all being evaded. Maddie says "Get up dammit! Hit him you stupid noob hunter!!" Barromhero walks slowly and casually towards Maddie using hand gestures to guide his pet, signaling a charge the troll casts out a bestial roar that makes Meryn shake. Right as the troll raises a club the size of a tree trunk, Maddie can only look up awaiting certain death. Baroomhero smiles as his sense of overwhelming power overcomes him. He says something in his syrtis tongue at Maddie. But all of a sudden the troll is struck in the leg by an arrow. It yelps as its leg goes limp and it falls over the bridge. Baroomhero looks in horror over the side then looks behind him. Meryn on one knee shot the troll at a vital spot in its back thigh. A hunting trick her father taught her when she was young. Baroom furious says more syrtis gibberish as he aims for Meryn's chest. Meryn pulls out another arrow to shoot but knows very few spells and cant drop the elf hunter facing her, the vital spot unexposed. "I will not die without fighting!"..she yells. Baroom's pink bow begins to glow and he starts to laugh loudly pulling back its golden string. Meryn hears a shout.."You stink like (expletive) flowers! What kind of man are you?" During his laughter, a sudden swarm of beetles enter the hunter's mouth and nose choking him and he losses concentration. He turns to Maddie again and Meryn shoots an arrow right into his ass. Baroomhero cast out a scream that would rival any igneo's, he cast a spell of immunity to all and runs away into the night. Blood trickling behind...the scent of flowers..and a pack of hyenas in a distance pickup his trail laughing as they give chase of potential easy prey. Maddie turns to Meryn smiling. "Wow, I didn't expect that from you. Well done." she hugs Meryn gratefully. After they recover, Meryn shares Maddie's horse as they head towards the swamp. Meryn looks back sadly thinking of her gifted horse.

Part V
Both Maddie and Meryn arrive at the entrance to the swamp just before sunrise. An eerie green fog so thick she can barely make out a few trees inside. Mysterious distant howls and screams come from within..."Are you Maddie somewhat in a trance does not respond, she is holding an amulet which glows from an incantation she is casting on it. "Here hun, and never take it off. My spell will help keep the ghosts at a distance as long as you don't disturb them. I have to leave you here.." she frowns "Its the orders given to me if we make it here. Rage says you must find Hate as quickly as you can. He probably already knows your here. Don't give up Meryn, but be careful, this swamp has claimed many lives. Poisonous snakes, slippery steep banks that trap you in the swamp pits, terrifying violent ghosts. The longer time passes the less chance of getting out alive." Meryn puts on the amulet, trembling as she peers into the scary swamp. Shadows seem to move inside and the fog seems alive even, thickening in random areas.. always moving although there is no wind. "Good luck Meryn, I wish to see you again." Maddie says as she mounts her horse. "Oh! If you see Hate in there give him this message for me." Maddie holds up her middle finger as she rides off. Meryn grasps her bow.."I must be strong" and makes her way slowly into the fog. Meryn draws an arrow and prepares as much as she can for what awaits. The moisture is very thick, Meryn sees her breath in front of her. Her hair already damp and her eyes irritated by the mist as she walks slowly on a path somewhat heading west. Hearing her steps through mud and adjusting to the constant rustle of the swamp, all of a sudden everything becomes silent. A huge snake crosses the path ahead of her. Meryn stops to let it pass. Suddenly she hears a whisper close to her ear "If you walk on the open path...you will cross ways with someone..but most likely an enemy, not the hunter your looking for." Meryn's turns to look for Hate and sees nothing. She turns her head forward again and her heart stops for a moment. About ten feet in front of her she sees a translucent image of a hooded man in a tattered robe with his back to her. She has never seen a ghost before and becomes fixated by it. Her heart begins to pound as she slowly tries to step passed it at a distance. There is no sound, she can only hear her breath as she tries to hold it. Meryn feels her heart pounding and she holds her amulet on her chest and prays that it works. Slowly pacing around it she stops. It begins to turn around slowly, almost as if it didn't want to see her but yet aware she is there. Meryn cant move petrified and scared of provoking it. She doesn't want to see its face but cant look away. She makes out the outline of a nose pale skin with deep dark black shadow lines on its face. Her heart begins to pound profusely as she realizes he is looking at her from the corner of his eye as he turns around slowly to face her. "He knows I'm here." she doesn't move.. "Run dammit" she tells herself yet she doesn't move. He begins to move his lips but no sound comes from them. Black and slow as if he is moving at a different speed and time. She makes out his words..You..will..die...here... His eyes look hungrily at Meryn as it begins to move its hands slowly around as if preparing to cast something. Meryn stands still repeating its words slowly. "You..will..die..here.." she repeats as she lets down her bow in some kind of trance. A brilliant light begins to form on its hands as it prepares to fire something at her. A arrow passes Meryn's cheek lightly cutting it and awaking her from her trance. It hits the ghosts and it remains in its pose, Meryn recognizes the spell as distracting shot. "Run and hide or die..." is whispered in her ear. Meryn cannot zero in on the voice. She begins to run knowing the spell only lasts moments. She runs through the fog, tears flow as she realizes she almost died. Suddenly she falls, sliding down a bank into a swamp pit. She screams as a sharp pain slides up her leg. But remembers the ghost and bites her lip as she sinks into the water. Meryn moves her hands countering the water's waves trying to settle them. "I have only seconds to prepare." she thinks. Meryn closes her eyes, calms her spirit and absorbs the nature around her. She feels the coldness of the water, the pain in her leg fades, a snake slides over her shoulder making its way up the bank, Meryn doesn't move. The fog's flow goes west but she feels its disturbance nearby, something is coming from the north. Nothing moves, she closes her eyes and slows her heart rate imagining herself falling into a dark bottomless hole. Meryn opens her eyes she moves slowly as she comes out of the water. No ripples, no footprints, no noise. She cannot see her body but is not in the swamp pit. She has disappeared, she has cast successfully camouflage.

Part VI
The ghost comes to the pit, deciding Meryn is gone it goes into a dormant state tilting down its head, still chanting its silent threat to itself. Meryn continues west, deciding Hate was the one that saved her. She decided he will follow her. "Can I hide better than him? Or misdirect his attention to escape his track?" Meryn's concentration is waning as camouflage is lose to end. She decides to climb a tree, hoping the higher position will give her a better perspective of her surroundings. "He was always behind me, around me watching. How was he so close without being spotted? He isn't using buffs so I didn't hear him. Hmm... camouflage takes time to get into the mind state and he cant talk in camo. No pet to give him away... Its like I'm chasing one ghost as I run from another." Meryn's camo spell fades and she hides high above in a hole in a wide tree trunk. Keeping her surroundings calm. "Nature's flow" she thinks. Meryn recalls her childhood, playing hide and seek and never being found. Except very easily by her mother when it became dark and time to come in. "How do you do it mother?" Meryn's mom smiles at her. "My child, you must follow nature's flow. Be mindful of nature, the effect of it on yourself and others. Especially the power it beholds.Raawr!!!"(she picks Meryn up towards the sky swirling her around in a circle, Meryn giggles)"You cannot fight it. Only flow with it. It feeds us when we understand it, fights back when we threaten it. Hurts us when we dont respect it. The more aware you are of nature's flow the better you control your surroundings." (She puts down Meryn and points at her footprints.) "I see little feet here leading to a Basket. The hiding place is cool and shaded from the desert sun. You can see your surroundings without being seen. Let alone our dog showed interest in the area. The scent of sweetbread you ate as you hide."(Meryns mother wipes her cheek laughing) "Its a good place to hide because it "flows" with nature, with consideration of your surroundings." Meryn wonders how her mother knew of such things, but it gives her an idea. Painfully slowly, trying to not make a sound she takes off her clothes. After a few hours she is able to remove all but her undergarments and buttons up her armour around a thick branch found inside. Meryn stuffs the armour with moss and dirt collecting inside the trunk through the years. She takes off her amulet and bowstring to sew it all together into a makeshift life size dummy. "It must work" she thinks to herself as she goes into her meditative state to cast camouflage. Meryn positions the dummy in perfect view of her hiding spot. She makes it look like her sleeping under a bush next to a large rock. Right next to the main path. A very lousy hiding spot exposed from the west angle. Once returning to her spot with a few rocks in hand she waits. "Something must happen. Nature's flow is in my favor." Meryn waits patiently as she looks across the area with her eyes and does an occasional camo scouting to see if she finds Hate. Now she is not prey, Meryn is hunting. After nightfall Meryn feels a sudden chill up her spine. "Someone is there" she thinks. As the moonlight slightly breaks through the fog as it does periodically she is able to quickly scan the shadows in the area already memorized by this time. One area seems to have changed but it appears nothing is there? Just as she begins to move her look elsewhere she noticed the land moved slightly. It moved as slow as the ghost did and slowly a silhouette of a man came into frame. Its Hate!! Meryn in excitement and anger throws her rock at his head as hard as she can. He gets knocked out cold. "Oh my God! Why did I do that?!!" In a few moments Hate comes to, immediately grabbing his head in pain. He turns to Meryn up in the tree standing almost naked. "I'm so sorry!!" She says as he holds his bleeding head. "Its just you made me angry with all the mess I have been through just to have you teach me. Please help me become better. I know I can help bring honor to my realm." Hate looks at her with a blank expression. "I think I found you didn't I? You didn't know I was there and I found you instead. I can do this if you just give me a chance!!" Hate continues to stare at her...Meryn realizes that he was staring at her body, she gasps then glares at him and picks up another rock and throws it at him hard Knocking him out cold. "Oh my God not again! What the hell am I doing?" When Hate comes to, he takes away Meryn's rocks... takes her to his lair, a huge hidden cave he dug out under some large rocks at the edge of the swamp. Through the weeks she is taught how to observe nature, habits of beasts and enemy in the war zone. Taking advantage of opportunities in war, assisting allies and most important, nature's flow applies in every situation. Meryn learns how to make a descent bow and arrows from scratch and Hate modifies her armour so it is lighter making her faster. Hate decides its time she returns to the clan, and surprises her with her horse he found injured at the entrance to the cavern. After helping it heal for a few days she got on her horse ready for her journey back to Mednet. "Oh yeah! Maddie has a message for you." Meryn flips off Hate. He begins to laugh out loud. "HAHAHAHAhahahahahahahahaha.....DON'T COME BACK!!! >.>" Part VII Wait! Stop! Rage, what the hell are you doing? You are going to give everyone the wrong idea >.> leaving out important details. Do I have to do everything myself?! Rewind: back to the part where I Hate You takes away Meryn’s rocks… When Hate comes to, he takes Meryn’s rocks and offers to help her down out of the tree with a sly smirk on his face. Meryn casts and evil look at him and grabs her bow and clothes out of his hand. He is laughing that same, irritating laughter she has heard from the mad people that wander about at night: “Come down out of the tree, Princess,” he bellows while tossing one of her confiscated rocks in the air and catching it in his hand again with a wink. Meryn mumbles something under her breath and by this time her annoyance with Hate becomes too much for her to handle. She raises her bow and draws back the string, aiming right at his… uh… face. Closing her eyes out of pure aggravation, she feels a sort of energy flash from her and suddenly opens her eyes to see Hate lying on the ground in a cloud of glitter and smoke. Successfully having cast ambush, Meryn redresses quickly and swings down out of the tree. When Hate comes to for the third time, he begins to look grumpy as he rubs his head and murmurs something to himself. Meryn just smiles and follows him across the miry terrain to his lair. “You know, just because you casted 2 spells successfully, that doesn’t mean you’re not still a noob. If I had been an enemy, you still would not have escaped. (Expletive) Rage for sending me noobs like you, but then again I am the best, so it makes sense!” He laughs as he grabs a flask from his pack and throws back a drink of something questionable. Laughing again he goes on in a rant: “Hide your women! It’s Hate! haHA! More to come soon... busy with class starting again but didnt want anyone to get weary waiting for more :P to be continued whenever Meryn's brain works again
