RO is not a FPS, we dont have machine guns, therefore we do not need strafing.

Ive used strafe a bit in combat, havent seen any advantage but it looks a little less daft than the old dancing, mostly just used it for lol's though, eg S+D(A)+F

I always use it now. I rant so much about it because I know (gave an effort on it on Amun) what it does, not because I can't play with it. If nothing is done on the next couple of months, when everyone gets used to it, the unbalancing aspects will be present specially in PvP and small skirmishes.

There is one class that only works at melee, knights. Even barbs are, somewhat, ranged (deafening roar is the best spell ever invented). Therefore if there is a class heavily dependant on game physics regarding movement this is the one. Before this update we could force ranged to give up their advantage and do something quite usual as running through us, they would normally use retaliation or SotW if available (or they would simply resist it ^^), simply because they could regain more range doing it then turning to a side and start running after (this would get them killed or running very fast after our cc and dmg landed). The known exception to this was escapist + maxed speed hunter on a pet, where they could tease a bit running backwards specially if mobility was on cd and a lightning speed Troll kept hitting us because we were too stupid to finish him 1st.

Now on, they simply don't have to, they can do exactly the same spells to control us without being forced to risk melee for a better range because strafing is at running speed. Simply put, their "orbits" are wider then ours (they have more speed most of the time even if marks on "anti-warrior" setup). To mages with mental the same rule of thumb applies.

/me facepalms

In wars the new movement system introduces many interesting features that I failed to acknowledge.

Obviously you haven't met too many mages with SM and fast staves + attack speed rings. I call these "machine gun mages" for a very good reason.

I use strafing on both my archers and warriors and I find it to be an excellent addition, even if I was a skeptic at first and the new movement system took some time to master after being used to the old one for over two years. The advantages it has brought me in battle are unparalleled - especially on my Barbarian, who when loaded up with Spring(5), TFB(5) and a Slow weapon can slaughter other warriors now without even getting hit once by their pathetic attempts to attack her.

However, I believe this might be a little unbalancing in the long run...

Regards.
